Thank you. Sagar can you share a pic? I have bought some Duo but box says 71JB. Price list says 21 Duo so I am curious about actual duo.

As far as I am concerned, this is called Duo. I didn't buy it. If this is the same you bought please share some pics.

Enjoying this 71J with a KW BB STUB paired with an Ebonite Sheaffer finned feeder. Glorious flow. Zero burps.

Thank you. Yes they exist in a huge variety. One of which fits Indian pens well. This is how the feeders look:

There is no specific name for this as such. You need to ask if the diameter is 6.35mm. These feeders were found on early Sheaffer School pens IIRC.

I have shown some other feeds that are also usable on most Indian EDs.

Yes only started using them recently. Haven't ran the pen out of ink yet, so will have to see how well it handles burping.

Which pen have you installed it in, with which nib? a good way to check is to fill just very little ink. That's how I test.

I have put it in my Gama Supreme with the Gama nib.

Yes, that's a good way to test for burping.

The good thing about these Jumbo pens like Supreme is that we can go on writing for many many pages without having to worry about burping.

I actually counted the number of pages I wrote with Gama Supreme in one ink filling. It wrote about 121 A5 sized pages, and the burping only started after the 100 pages mark. So a good long writing experience with it

I have done this too with 2 different wality 69Ts. I wrote it dry multiple times - no burping. All thanks to some great suggestions by Hari sir here. I heard Gama pens need knockout block to remove feeder. How did you put in the sheaffer feeder and how would you remove it ?

That's wonderful, I hardly get to write much nowadays.

Invest in a good knockout block or make one. A tight fitting nib and feed is a good thing. When you are removing the feeder from a Sheaffer School pen or No Nonsense, you have no option but to pull the nib feed out. With some practice you will develop the technique of pulling straight out without bending or damaging the fins. Use a pair of latex examination gloves for grip. Don't wear them, just use them as a gripping sheet.

When mounted on an Indian ED you can knockout the Sheaffer feed. But you have the tail to take care of. So you need a suitable hollow rod to use as a punch. Never use a hammer, buy a nylon head mallet. Hope this helps.

Good to hear that there is no burping.

Yes I have heard from others too that Gama nibs are fitted very tightly, but mine came out very easily. Please note I bought my Gama only 2-3 months back, so maybe they have changed something in their new pens hopefully.

My Gama feed and Sheaffer feed both come out easily, and yet are tight enough to not leak any ink.

Thank you. If there is nothing else to write, I do a lot of journaling, so that helps to get some writing done.

@cvk Just tried removing the feed from another Gama - Kuyil - which was also a recent buy. It is very tight as you mentioned.

I guess I was just lucky with the Supreme. Lol.

I think you are lucky with the Kuyil. Nibs and feeds are not designed to be pulled out by the end user who does not have the tools.

When you have a tight fit and are using a simple ebonite feeder, the only way for air to exchange is through the feed channel. Here exchange only takes place as ink is consumed during writing or evaporation.

If the feeder is a loose fit, there necessarily has to be air gaps surrounding the feed. this allows air to exchange and the pen to blob and burp.

So a tight fit ensures that the only air path is through the feed and no bypass path exists. This is why we apply silicone grease to section threads as well. An air path there acts as a feed air inlet bypass and ink drips out the feed.

Knockout blocks and hollow punch are available on this page.

ITEM #D1 and ITEM #D-16-P

https://pentooling.com/files.html

or you can make or get made something similar.

How to insert nibs and feeds into tight sections is another topic, I will post something on it. I will have to suggest something that is easily available in the local market.

Thank you for the detailed info. This was very useful.

I haven't faced any problem with any of my pens so far, but good to know the right way to do things. Thank you for the item details too. 🙏

For those unfamiliar, this is a 71J friction fit nib model modified to accept screw in JoWo nib units with cartridge or converter or direct ED filling. The ink window helps tell how much ink is there in the converter.

Nice one hari sir... BTW, Are you aware of a new model by airmail, its based on the 71JT but with the same threaded nib unit as the 71JBRCC. I saw the post on facebook, but none of the pentailers on my contact list have any, they've also released a variant where the stock no.8 nib is swapped for a no.35 nib from kanwrite friction fit on an ebonite feed... Here's some pictures of it from facebook, where I came to know about it(on a side note, the pictures look very similar to your style of posts in FPN)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
