Tomoe River 52gsm in 3 post binder

Has anyone tried Tomoe River 52gsm in a 3 ring or 3 post binder? Someone gifted me a Murdy Creative 3 post binder (this one: https://murdycreative.co/products/slim-cut-refillable-leather-binder). I only write with fountain pens (at least when I can) and I've been looking for decent paper. I've tried some typical 3 hole paper and punched some HP premium laser jet paper. I don't love either. I recently found some loose leafe 8.5X11 Tomoe River 52gsm (my favorite paper). Does any know if this is "sturdy" enough to be punched and put in a binder? It's the right size and obviously wonderful FP paper, but I'm concerned it might be too thin.

Anyone have any experience or ideas?

Thanks!

-Tom

Back in the day, we had little donut shaped reinforcements for the paper holes for 3 ring binders. I used them only when the holes in the paper were ripping for important school notes. Here is a modern equivalent I found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08J1G38DT/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B08J1G38DTp13NParams&smid=A32RLE08M2N1D1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyODQ2NzNLT0NFN1E1JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjU5NzM1Mzg4VVIyQTJWMExJSSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzExMzcxMUk3QkFBQjQxRDBQUSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbDImYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

If you want to reinforce every page, perhaps put some sort of paper tape run down the length of the page before punching the pages.

That's a very interesting idea... I'm wonder if even a strip of scotch tape or something might work well enough. I certainly don't want to lay 400 of those little circles one by one (I could, but gosh that would be tedious!). But I wonder if I could just punch right through the tape. I'll have to give that a shot! Thanks!

Scotch tape works. That's what I would use to fix torn pages when I still used 3-ring binders.

Not sure if this is equivalent, but I have used a Kokuyo hole punch to make a spiral bound notebook, 200 pages more or less, with 52gsm Tomoe River paper. About 20 small holes, close together, and you wind a plastic covered spiral through them. It works perfectly - the paper is strong enough. This is in fact my current notebook.

Just to circle back to this, in case anyone is considering something similar in the future, some observations:

1) Scotch tape works very well! Just lay a strip of tape on the left edge of the page and then punch through the page and the tape. It's holding very well.

2) 52gsm TRP is very thin and it can be hard to align all the pages to punch them exactly. My binder has a bit of a ragged edge now. Not a problem for me, but if you're more OCD than I, it might be good to either measure, or use larger than desired paper and then trim at the end.

3) The Murdy 3 post binder is probably better suited for reading existing material than for using as a daily writer. The cover is a bit cumbersome to flip back and forth and it's definitely not lie-flat. You almost have to fold the cover full back on itself to get it out the way (otherwise it flops shut) and then do the same with the back cover to write on the other side of the page.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
