Nib & feed on my new Ranga fountain pen

This past Tuesday I received from the maker in India a new Ranga fountain pen, my first Ranga. While I wrote to the maker to ask how the apparently #6 nib and feed come out of the section, I've not heard from him (maybe because he and his son don't often look at their email service or maybe too busy due to the work load: I used mpkandan@yahoo.co.in which is inside the pen case). Therefore, I'm here to ask the same thing: do I simply pull out the nib and feed since they're both friction fit, or are both inside a housing/collar that unscrews from the section? [I know if both are in a collar, I can pull them out of the collar/housing.]

On my Ranga pens, the nib and feed are in a housing that is screwed in/out.

In my Ranga nib and feeder are friction fitted.

If you check the pen carefully you can distinguish if nib and feed have an housing nich will be for sure screwed, or if they are friction fitted without housing.

In general, converter pens have collars in which the nib and feed are set. The collar can unscrew from the pen, just turn the nib and feed after disconnecting the converter. If the pen is an eyedropper then nib and feed are friction fit. In Ranga eyedropper pens the feed is ebonite, easy to spot.

 

In that respect, things don't change much though, as you can just pull out nib and feed from a collar the same way you can in an eyedropper.

Ranga usually uses either Bock or Jowo collar + nib + feed groups when they do converter pens.

Bock and Jowo feeds are plastic, so if the feed is plastic, it will be fitted with the nib in a collar that can be unscrewed.

Presence of the converter that attaches to the collar nipple also confirms this.

 

In eyedropper pens there is no nipple, the back side of the section shows a small hole, the feed is ebonite and is friction fit with the nib in the section. Ranga uses different nibs in such cases, mostly Indian, Kanwrite, Wality, but they will also use German nibs in eyedroppers if you ask them

 

I have several Ranga eyedroppers with Bock nibs, which I prefer for their slight softness.

btw, if you have a converter pen (Ranga calls it 3 in one because you can use it with converter, cartridge or if you take the converter out, just fill the barrel, and use it in eyedropper mode), so with collar, it is also easy to recognize a Bock feed from a Jowo feed, just look at the feed back, the Jowo has a flat bottom.

Just to add to the tally, the Kanwrite Flex nibs in the 3 in 1 pens are also a screw in nib unit. The nib and feed are friction fit into the screw in unit should you want to pull them.
