Beginner here, trying to choose which penbbs pen to buy:) Thanks!

I saw many reviews saying that penbbs 456 is a really really good pen, but for that price, I can get two penbbs 480s here in china. Is one pennbs 456 equal to 2 penbbs 480? I also thought of maybe buying the pen with two nibs called penbbs 469, also around the price of 456, but cheaper. I own a platinum preppy and a pilot penmanship. Which one should I get? Thanks!

Also, gonna be buying a bunch of number 6 nibs from different chinese brands. They make a lot of pretty good and cheap ones out there, so I am leaning more onto 2 penbbs 480 or a penbbs 469. This is so I can try them a lot.

Wow, I remember you from some days ago, still excited on your pen journey 👌 good to see!

I'd say keep the Preppy as a highlighter if you take notes, or as a pen to take outside. If you misplace it, at least it's replaceable, and having 2-3 good pens helps rotating inks at home. Did you find an ink you like since last thread? What about writing? It's hard to give advice without knowing your next project.

On both BBS pens, I don't like the half clear design of the 469, if you use lots of colored ink it may look nice tho. Does the forum (penbbs.com) has extra info on how they perform? I don't know much on Chinese pens, but they made a name in the hobby.

Always looking for new ways to downsize my collection.

I have 2 456s and a 469. I don’t have a 480 but I can say that they all use the same nib (fine or medium) and feed so the writing experience should be similar. The shape and the weight is more relevant to your writing experience.

Note that 456 is a vacuum filler and may be a bit more difficult to clean. 480 should be easier to clean as it is a cc. 469 is not for everyone but it has the advantage of having both a medium and a fine nib. I can say that I like the medium nib. You can also buy nib units separately.

One more thing. If you want to swap nibs I suggest you buy a parts pack. You will get feeds and collars and it is easier to new nib units than swap nibs.

@IJKWS

Thanks for the pictures. These nibs look nice. Wish there would be some #6 nibs like this.

Regarding the PenBBS pens. I bought two. With one (268?), the section cracked after using it for a few days. The other one (456) doesn't suck ink in after short usage. I didn't get any answer when I contacted them via Instagram. So, my advice: there are other makers with better pens for less money (Hongdian e.g.). Their steel nibs are a dream. If I give away (sell) all my Chinese pens, the Hongdians are the ones which I would keep. I might make an exception for the Jinhao 85, they are also extraordinary.

I don't know.

Mr.Su showed some pictures of billet 2 months ago. What I only know is they produced it  successfully after three or four attempts, several days ago.

The size may be same as the old penbbs nib, maybe no.6?

Probably Etsy, I would need to look up my financial files. The problem with PenBBS is, they try so/too many things instead of trying to focus on improving quality - the buyer is their guinea pig. Some are lucky, some are unlucky like me.

For me, PenBBS is a NEVER AGAIN.

With Hongdian, I am 100% content - I bought 7. It is the only Chinese company with such a high rating from me.

It do happen with PenBBS and many other batch production small independents , been there before .. so far my PenBBS all work out fine for me , touchwood .. for the price bracket , I stay with Hero , yeah Hero's QC on their school pen, kid's pen and all those 616 and vintage models are pretty much nil, but for the price bracket thus as Hongdian, PenBBS, Lorelei etc ..  those Hero are pretty mice , that is so long you do not mind their almost always too conservative or too radical styling . Somehow Hero just happen not to find the middle ground most of the time.

if its for me , starting with PenBBS, I would stay with choosing their default Fine nib with the upturn tip , just made it sure that you do not try to use it by pressing on the nib , rather utilizing the angle to the paper to facilitate. I am nostalgic ( if it can be said so ) with the model 323 , its one of the earliest release model together with the 266 / 308, and the 267. Its one shape that seems everybody can be comfortable with. But it cannot post and its clipless. Otherwise I find it more pleasing than the others. and this is the only model that you can had in either acrylic or metal ( anodized aluminum )

The others is all about the filling system mostly. For the part, the needed and wanted accessories for any PenBBS is the parts pack and extra nib charm , or go buy some off beat no.6 nib.

I have talked with the PENBBS,bro.

They told me if you face this problem, You should contact with the dealer because they don't have any stock of 456😂

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
