Do pilot's stainess steel nibs fit on penbbs456?

Have you tried swapping their nibs? I am hesitating whether to buy one or not. Pilot nibs are really likeable, and penbbs' pen body is really nice. The nibs that I am talking about is the one that fits pilot metropolitan, prera, penmanship and more. Will it work?

No they won't fit at all. The penbbs 456 uses a feed that is completely unlike the Pilot one. The replacement nibs that fit on these penbbs pens include jinhao and jowo, but not pilot.

I very much doubt it, those nibs all have a pair of "wings" in the back of the nib. The PenBBS nib is more conventional. At most you could buy one of the cheap "pilot compatible" nibs file the wings and try to fit it into the PenBBS and if that works do the same with the pilot nib.

ohh thanks for the reply, I still have another question though. Is it possible to fit smaller nibs on pens that require big nibs. For example, someone has a number 5 nib, but has a pen that uses number 6 nib. Is it possible for him or her ot use it? Or, does it depend from pen to pen?

As a general rule, no: the larger nibs also have larger diameter feeds, and the smaller nibs a smaller diameter - so you won't get them to sit snugly against the feed unless you flatten them out. Even then, #5 nibs are usually somewhat shorter than #6 nibs - so you'll likely have compatibility issues there too.

As you experiment you'll quickly discover that not all #5 nibs fit in all #5 pens, and likewise with #6 nibs - there are subtle variations between brands in terms of shape and curvature, that can lead to poor contact between nib and feed, and therefore inconsistent ink flow.  It can be fun to try swapping nibs between pens, but there's a bit of trial and error involved in getting a good fit!

Thanks for the reply! I guess it really depends.

Yes, if you're talking about swapping similar-sized nibs between pens - but if you mean fitting #5 nibs into #6 sized pens, I'd say 99 times out of a hundred at least, that won't work!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
