It reminds me a lot of a Jackson Pollock.

Why not just rub dirt and cigarette ashes into your art?

As a paramedic, I don't think the red one reminds me of a burn patient.

Something bad enough to cause sloughing like that would have a lot more.... Black.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Well I don't need one. My daughter dropped an old Stabilo on the grill a few years ago, and it looked almost exactly the same, so I reckon I could just knock one up on the Aga whenever I feel like it.

A true Art critic would definitely see  and feel the amazing  artistic value this  pen brings  to  2020/2021.

That fictional Art Critic, would tell you that the   pen  be-spoke  (pedants: please refrain from correcting this word)  to him/her about the state of humanity, and the damage and suffering  that Covid  has visited upon us.

The same Art Critic would  then cheer you up  by adding  that the pen brings a message of hope.

The damage is only skin deep.  If  this pen was able to survive that horrid Artistic Wasabi  (pedants: please refrain from correcting this word) experience;  so will Humanity.

Somehow, while others see burned skin, I see   a fictitious child-King playing with his red  sealing wax and then deciding  to sell  the  royal outcome to his subjects; hence the asking price.

BTW, Disclaimer, clarification,  so on, so forth, ... etc,  and such:

Do not take this post seriously. It was an attempt to use the word "bespoke" in a sentence and   it just   bombed  :)

I will ATTEMPT to pick up the torch for you:

Of late, the word bespoke is being over-used in order to aggrandize something and thereby charge more money for it.

Acheivement Unlocked:

"Use Bespoke in a sentence"

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

True. You have succeeded where I have failed.

Let me tell you a little secret, since you have been so helpful.

I think this is the first time I see the word "aggrandize"  in written form. I know, I must have heard it, since I know what it means.

This should give you an idea about how uncouth some of the people you have to deal with in this forum.  :lticaptd:

BTW,   for the forum police:  I am using "uncouth" to describe myself.

I initially saw this pen on the nibs.com newsletter and didn't know what to think. I was too scared to say it looked bad on this thread.. Now that others have voiced their opinion.. God that might be the worst looking pen I've ever seen(imo, of course)

i do not believe i have ever seen or heard anyone actually use the word uncouth in a sentence. You have absolutely redeemed yourself in your (self described) failure to use "bespoke" in a sentence. I stand in your shadow.

also, these pens are still ugly and over priced. :P

You too!

(ps, I'm semi-retired so every day is a kinda like a weekend for me...)

Also: these pens continue to be ugly and overpriced.

You are definitely young at heart, though.  We've  at least got couple of smiles from this  $2500 pen. Take good care.

I do not think this is how pens look when they age.

I certainly hope that they don't.  I looked at this thread mostly for curiosity's sake.  But I doubt that I'd be remotely interested -- even if I could afford one, and even if I thought I could handle something as large as a KoP (I'll stick to the 1911S and Pro-Gear Slim pens -- those are pricy enough...).

While I do get your point...

Speaking only for myself, if i saw it at 20Grand, I would have the same reaction that I had when i saw 400$ "Hermes" AirTags from Apple: "Well, if rich people are THAT stupid and THAT desperate/vain to show off their money... someone may as well take it from them!" (still need to figure out how I can be that someone...)

:lticaptd:

You and me both.  Well, except for the fact that I threw the Parker Urban from Hell into the trash, because I'd have felt too guilty selling it or even giving it away....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
