I have at this moment: 7 pens

  • Vac 51 - 3
  • Vac 51 Demi - 1
  • Aero 51 - 2
  • Aero Demi - 1
  • Pencils - 2

Plus, I have an Aero pen/pencil set its the way across the pond from Andy's Pens.

TBH, I thought it was more than that.

As a side note, I generally switch pens quite frequently but have been using my aerometric exclusively this week. It has amazed me how much writing I am getting out of one fill! This is a true EDC pen.

Current lineup:

Lamy 2000

Down to a couple of dozen.  Mostly aerometrics.  Maybe some more kicking around needing restoration.  Instead of restoring the vacs, I bought two Wing Sung vac fillers.  Came with a filler remover.

I have no Parker 51s.  In fact, the only Parker I have is the 1960s vintage Duofold that was one of my late wife's school pens.

Tell me why I should buy a 51.

As many smarter than me have pointed out on here, you either love the 51 or you hate it. It has no flex, but generally always writes well. Not for everyone but I’m a fan of the 1940’s and 50’s, so it’s just right up my alley.

Thanks.  With that, there is no need for me to rush out and buy one, especially since I am quite happy with Conway Stewarts, etc.

Oh, are we playing “lowest price paid in-the-wild”?

$4 for a 1st Year Blue Cedar with a Sterling Silver cap.  And the diaphragm worked/still works just fine.

Well, that would be the prices paid for my two Empire sets.

They were purchased--within a three-week period--for less than $25 each.

The black set was in a lot of five pens for $35 for the lot and three weeks later, in another state, the Nassau set was in another lot of five pens for $60 for the lot.

I guess that questions goes to the root of why we collect fountain pens at all. We all have our own attractions and compulsions. To each their own.

This is true.  Apparently my attraction and compulsion is predominately Conway Stewart.  I have x many vintage and soon to be a third current production CS pens, and has been pointed out to me, I can only write with one of them at a time

Funny thing. I can only wear one pair of knickers at a time, but god help us if we only have one pair…

I shouldn’t speculate, some of us may wear two pairs…😂👍

True. In fact I once knew a woman who did wear two pair at the same time.

Despite only having one, lately it’s been getting the majority of my fountain pen usage.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
