Best price for an in the wild 51 Vac?  Ten bucks with the cap for some third tier brand on it, at an antiques mall south of Pittsburgh.

Best price for an in the wild %1 Aero?  2 bucks for the Forest Green Aero at an estate sale about an hour northeast of me about 3 years ago.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

From their perspective, or yours?  :D

Well, my perspective is all that matters! 😁 I picked up 4 pens for $50. Only one was a Parker….Navy Grey 51 special with a clip missing cap.

One of the latest 51 sets to the collection. They are absolute beauties that are neither cheap or expensive. They just are.

Wow!

Just Wow!

I have 3 aeros and no vacs. I love my two with extra fine nibs - one of those a 51 special - and they get used regularly - and they are among my favorite pens. If I find a decent vac for a good price with a extra fine nib I'll definitely buy it but then I'll be set - one 51 aero, one 51 special, and one 51 vac is all I really want.

I have six and am really happy and satisfied with my 51's. The black vac with blue diamond belonged to my late father.

Maybe a double jeweled sometime in the future....

Please tell me more -- is that the Heirloom fish scales or scallop design? I love it. That would mark it as 1942 or later.

Also, I see the pen clip has an empty diamond on it. Does that make it a transitional clip, 1947 to 1948?

Well now I have done it, I’ve doubled the amount of “51”s I own, I had two 51 vacuum fillers, now I have added two aerometrics. First ones is blue (not sure which one) it has no barrel markings and has a press ribbed bar 4 times use super chrome ink marked filler.

the next one is dk green barrel Is date stamped 9. it has a press ribbed bar firmly 6 times use super chrome ink filler

i found these on the evil place, I got seven pens in two lots from the same seller. One had two P45s, a P21, and a P51, the next lot had two P21s and a P51. $56.00 each lot for a whopping $16.00 per pen! Dirty dried up aerometrics sure clean up easy and work nicely

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
