Montblanc Around the World in 80 Days vs. Petrol Blue vs. Blue Hour Twilight Blue

I received my bottle of 80 Days in the mail yesterday along with the 146 80 days pen. I wasted no time in inking up the pen with its matching ink, but was immediately hit by its similarity to Petrol Blue, the 2019 COlor of the Year.

I mentioned this in another thread, and @mizgeorge mentioned the similarity to Twilight Blue.

Blue Hour Twilight Blue is definitely more green, but I'm really struggling to see the difference between 80 Days and Petrol Blue. Has anyone else looked at these side by side? IMG_2802.thumb.jpeg.2f02289d76d481a811fe28136130c7a9.jpeg

Thanks for this comparison bunnspecial. Having Petron Blue, which I really like, I won't need the Around the World in 80 Days ink.

Thanks,

Hmm.... No, I'm not lookin' fer a fight but IYAM -- judging by the images above -- the Blue Hour an the Petrol Blue look the same, whereas the 80 Days is bluer.

Perhaps the solution is to get a photograph in better light.

With the cards in front of me, Blue Hour is definitely the odd one out, with the Petrol and 80 Days nearly identical.

Also, I think this shows one of the dangers of swabs in general. When I started doing these cards, Petrol Blue was one of the first I did because I had a pen inked with it. It was maybe about the 3rd of them I did(and shows me getting it upside down the first time). The 80 Days I did this morning, and it was the last of my initial pack of 100 Col-O-Dex cards. I have more on order, so may re-do some of these early ones like Petrol to be more consistent with my more recent ones.

The question I have (not owning any of these) is which might be the closest to MB Leo Tolstoy LE?  I don't normally like teal blue leaning inks, but Tolstoy surprised me, and I'm sorry now that I didn't buy a backup bottle when I had a chance (even at that price).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I'll pull out the card for comparison tomorrow if I have a chance, but none of these really are anywhere close to Tolstoy to my eye.

I can't really place Tolstoy similar to any other ink I have. I kept flipping over to Kon-Peki, but it's really not there either. I wish there was a better match for it, as it is a nice color.

BTW, I bought my Tolstoy from a seller on here who I seem to recall had a couple more bottles.

@Frank C weren't we looking for Around the World? Also, do you have Tolstoy?  I don't think I have it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Anybody knows where I can get the Blue Hour ink?

Sometimes shows up on ebay. Or do a Google search to try to buy it and see if any comes up in your part of the world

Fabulous comparison, thank you a lot!

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
