Hello everyone!!  I hope you are all well and that you will be kind enough to forgive me for my terrible English. I learned to write with fountain pens and, in reality, the exam tests that we did then should necessarily be carried out with fountain pens - by now everyone has realized that I am no longer a teenager;)  Writing with light (photography) really got me right after I learned to write and, right after, I got the computer bug. When I realized the keyboards were my way of communicating and then I only used a pen to sign documents. Years and years later, going through professional education, founding a philharmonic orchestra, studying art and heritage while producing short videos and discovering a taste for audio, I rediscovered the pleasure of writing with nib pens on suitable paper and with ink that gives some character to the writing. I am also dreaming about the design and construction of a pen that can use quality nibs, produced by manufacturers with experience in this field.  So, finally, I decided to try to learn from this community that has many people who are an example and have years of experience, hoping that they will accept this interested, imaginative and curious apprentice.  A strong and cordial hug, Tito (say T 2 - tee two - in english and it sounds perfectly in portuguese)

Hello Tito and welcome - I suspect you have some fascinating stories to tell - founding an orchestra sounds like quite an undertaking!

Enjoy FPN :)

Thanks mizgeorge!!

Good experience with lots of help from several friends... Have you ever try to buy a large number of chairs all equal an have it in place for all the orchestra members (say from lunch time to evening) in the first rehearsal and only with an normal car at your disposal? ;)

Hi Tito, and welcome to FPN!

No need to apologize for your English. I rather enjoy your writing style, as it is organized, information-rich, and perhaps most importantly, easy for me to understand. Absolute mastery of such a widely-spoken, informally-structured language that lacks a universally-accepted standard is in any case very difficult if not impossible, even for many native speakers.

You did not mention where, exactly, in Portugal you are, but I can trace some of my best fountain pen memories to a work project in Lisbon some twenty years ago, where I spent some pleasant days and evenings in the city, as well as weekends in and around the parks of Sintra-Cascais. There always seemed to be a good place to sit down, pull out a notebook and a pen, and write or sketch, often accompanied by something pleasant to eat and/or drink.

We hope you enjoy your time here, and we look forward to hearing of your fountain pen adventures!

Hi,

Sorry, I truly should say something about my location(s) - thank you for asking.

I'm born In Coimbra but, nowadays, I work in Lisbon and live nearby Palmela. I'm that type of lucky guy with family houses near 3 beaches (Figueira da Foz, Sesimbra and Algarve - close to the border with Spain)... So I usually spin for this places and a little lovely spot "a la campagne", in a small town near Coimbra.

In fact, the last time I counted, I have change my living place more than 20 times. I must stop or, probably, should get a boat!! ;)

Cascais and Sintra are magical places, especially with people that we care near us... Writing, eating, drinking, talking, reading, walking, site seeing or even relaxing are very pleasant activities that excel in this region.

Thanks for your kind words.

Greetings Tito. Like N100 etc above, I have good fountain pen memories of Portugal. I am an archaeologist and I have done a fair bit of work in Portugal, and I record everything in fountain pen before putting it into a database. That way I have the hard copy in case anything goes wrong. And I get an excuse to use my fountain pens! I have a memory of a Neolithic site at Figueira da Foz but I never worked on any material from there - lovely place.

Enjoy your time here. There is expertise on the FPN that will amaze you.

Peter

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
