Hi All,

I request you for the authentication of the following three pens. Are they factory original. Thank you very much

I'm not well-acquainted with the specific models of the pens here except for the 149, which looks original to me.

This is partly because the other two pens, a rollerball and ballpoint, are easier to fake and have been faked well. However, given the general impression I get from them, and their boxes (which I'm assuming weren't bought separately), they look genuine too.

Thank you very much for the kind post. My brother has already paid for them as a gift for me and I am worried about its authentication. Again thank you.

Very hard to tell without seeing them up close. The 90th nib looks authentic to me. Haven't a clue about the diamond one, I wouldn't even consider buying a a second-hand one from fear of a fake.

No problem. I didn't know you had an authentication card, and that makes things a lot better: I've never heard of those being faked properly, especially in a manner specific to the diamond model. You've got a generous brother!

I suggest calling Montblanc and verifying the serial numbers with them.

Let us know what they tell you.

90 year 146 should be genuine, I have the exact one. Mine from NYC boutique.

You're right, it's a 146. I own both non-anniversary models, but for some reason I found it so hard to tell whether it was a 146 or 149, but the endcap for example is certainly from a 146.

And yes Montblanc does offer an authentication service too.

Was trying to remember if the Solitaire Doue cap always had a hallmark but guess if it's not silver underneath then it probably didn't

Thank you for the kind reply. This one also doesn't seem to have hallmark?

Nib of 90 year 146 is slightly larger than regular 146 and writer's edition 146, not a typical 146 shape.

Thanks so much for pointing this out, I couldn't place my finger on it. I think this shape is more attractive than the modern "stubby" 146 nib!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
