G&M Custom Pens - Xiphos: A Review

So there hasn't been any reviews out there, aside from one or two here, of this pen company known as G&M Custom Pens and I must day that they're heavily underrated. I ordered this pen like a week ago and the colour and material I chose was Black Nikko ebonite with TiN (It's like matte gold) trim.

They usually make custom pens but they have some in inventory and I was lucky :")

So here's the review:

Appearance: 7/10

I chose the classic black ebonite with gold trims and man it looks beautiful. It is understated, yes but the pen looks huge like other ebonites I used to own. It's as big as a Lamy Safari but it is girthier.

The cap has a pointed finial and it goes down to a smooth cap band. The clip has a decent spring to it and then comes the gold cap band. Theres a smooth transition to barrel and it is like a cigar shaped pen over all with the end finial tad bigger than the one on the cap.

The section flares out, providing a decent grip to write.

Build: 9/10

The build of the pen is superb and the Nikko ebonite doesn't have any kind of pits on it, like most ebonite pens do. The pen has a decent polish.

The only problem I had with the build was that the pen took four and a half turns to uncap but I think it's managable. The pen feels warm to the touch and feels sturdy as hell.

Nib: 10/10

The nib is a TiN plated Jowo 1.1 mm stub and the nib has been tuned to my tastes and tested before shipping (so gotta clean the pen before inking it)

The nib is super smooth and gives neat variation. It gives a lot of flair to my cursive. Overall, I liked the nib and Im thinking of replacing it with an actual gold stub. It's gonna stay inked for a long time. :)

Overall: 8.5/10

I love this pen and Im hoping to carry it to my college everyday. Noodler's Black Swan suits the stub nibs so good. I had a pretty great experience with G&M Custom Pens and Mr Apurv Kulkarni was quite responsive and I gotta give it to him for putting up with me XD

I was surprised that they aren't as prominent as other pen makers even if they were in the business for like 2 years. The Nikko ebonite is pretty

high quality and it's worth 8.65k INR for sure.

Nice pen and good review. Congrats on your new pen!

I do not see Xiphos listed on their website; was it a custom-made new model that was available?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
