Textured (matte) Alpin Lamy Safari - what do you have?

Am interested in the textured Alpin, which is the white with black clip.  They are mostly glossy, but back in the early 80s were released as a short run with a textured surface.  I have a fountain pen, which I have treasured for about a decade; I acquired it as a swap with @haywoody (pity he seems to have left the forum).

Just last week I found a textured ballpoint Alpin in my drawer of discards...!  I was never really interested in non-fountain pens in the Safari range and so just put them away when acquired as unwanted extras.  Couldn't believe it when I saw it!

Anyways, here's the main question - does anyone out there have textured Alpin mechanical pencil or rollerball please?

Thanks @cbbp - If so, it’ll mean that the textured Alpin was released in all forms.

My Alpin MP is of the glossy variety after all.

I did find an Umbra MP stamped W. Germany though :)

I've never seen textured surface white mechanical pencils, ballpoints or rollerballs, only soft shiny finishes...

Missing Pen has all what you're looking for but in soft shiny finish, they even have a twin system pen in white!

Wow, wow, WOW!!! Now that is an edition I have never seen before! What a find!!! I feel these barrel-stamped versions are a missing “Generation” from @haywoody’s original descriptions. If you ever decide you wish to part with it, do please let me know 😉

A girl in school had a alpine fountain pen. That was some time ago, Never saw one in the store though. Its a bit of a unicorn, with a black horn.

I just checked my box and I have a shiny as in smooth white Lamy safari with a black clip and W Germany on it.

I can finally confirm that matte Alpin was released in FP, RB, BP and MP. I have three of these but lack the mechanical pencil but I’ve seen the textured Alpin as a mechanical pencil in the collection of a Thai collector who has the full set. I will continue my hunt…!

That must have taken some searching to find as in your original post you only had the RB.

I'm sure the other will turn up, took me years to get a good example of the Safari Terracotta BP. It just takes patience which a don't always have an abundance of 🤣

Yes - some finds require more patience than others!

My first was the matte Alpin fountain pen about ten years ago.

My second was a matte Alpin ballpoint; I’ve no idea when I acquired it but I found it last year in my drawer of pens and had a huge shock as I had completely overlooked it previously (wasn’t interested in non-fountain-pen Safaris in the past).

My third is the matte Alpin Rollerball, which I purchased this year from a Thai collector.

Last one left is the mechanical pencil! I’ve seen an example of this but that the only one I’ve come across. Interestingly, it’s even rarer because the W.Germany stamp is on the barrel side (like the fantastic photo that @cbbp posted above).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
