Marlen Fountain Pens

Recommended Posts

These came looking for me today. It's my first encounter with Marlen pens. They are all piston filled. Writes smoothly with a bit of bounce. It writes a bit on the dry side.

Can someone tell me more about Marlen? Are they still in business?

Any information about these pens ?

We had a full  lockdown in Italy from march to may 2020, but after that all companies have been kept working under severe security protocols.

Only Restaurants, Bars, Theathers, Gims, Beauty salons,  and similar activities have been in lockdown again also recently.

Hmmm, I always thought they were a sub-brand of Delta and Delta ran out of business. Was I mistaken?

Looks like Delta brand has been acquired by Yafa, as has Marlen

Add lightness and simplicate.

I can't wait to see how that works out for Yafa. :D

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I'd be surprised if Yafa acquired Marlen....I think it is more likely that Yafa is the US Distributor for Marlen....similar to their relationship with Pineider,  Schmidt and Stipula.

I haven't seen any current relationship between Yafa and the former Delta name.  Yafa previously HAD BEEN the US Distributor for Delta, prior to Delta going out of business.  The Delta link that you reflected in your post is an old website from when Yafa was the US Distributor for Delta, and Delta was still in business.

In my experience the Marlen Pens have good quality...although to my taste, some of the models were over the top for me.  Over the years there distribution in the US was not very good, so the Brand was pretty under the radar and not very well discussed or recognized.

As far as I can see Marlen is still active (their website is, they also have an online shop, check marlenpens). Although being located in the same area as Delta (between Naples and Caserta) and possibly having had contacts and mutual influences, I am not aware that they may have been financially related.

As BillP says, they have always been too much over the top in their design for my taste, and I only own a few of their pens, the less ornate ones.

The Marlen Class is one of them

I love my simpler looking steel nib Marlen Splendida which is I think their newer model and it comes in various colours.

Do you know does Marlen work on their nibs? They looked pretty generic to me.

Who's the supplier for Marlen nibs ?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
