Fascinating! At one point I notice that the speaker indicates the red gold and white gold nibs are just that -- they aren't plated in those colors. Very interesting!

Yep, most interesting. Thank you so very much.

These new video engagements that Montblanc is doing really show that Montblanc continues to have a grasp on good marketing. These kinds of videos say, "We're not just a luxury goods maker, we're a *pen* maker, and we're serious about pens." In this new world of fountain pen enthusiasm, that's a really good message to have. It lends technical credibility to a brand that might otherwise be passed over as just a "fashion brand."

I really enjoy stuff like this. I also attended a Montblanc webinar on modern freestyle calligraphy, and it was well done and accessible to your average amateur lettering enthusiast, which, IMO, is likely to sell a lot of pens. 🙂

I'm not as much into MontBlanc the brand, as much as I appreciate MontBlanc pens.  Their attention to detail and continued attention to producing pens as great writing instruments, shows.  I just recently got a Montblanc No.22 and the pen is so nice!  I love my modern Montblancs as well.  I now have a Montblanc 220 with brushed finish on the way.  These models can be obtained at great prices.

I am absolutely thrilled by the quality of the No.22 and how it writes (mine is an oblique broad).  Montblanc has maintained their quality in production over the years and I think it actually has improved in some ways.

How do you get access to these presentations?

I'm not sure how to get to all of the events, but there are a number of virtual events that are put on right now, listed here:

Discover - Virtual Events – Montblanc® US

The calligraphy events, as far as I can tell, are not going to be targeted to beginners or people who aren't experts in that field. However, if you enjoy lettering, it's neat to see them. I don't know where events like the nib manufacturing event is listed/hosted.

Thank you for the link! I do no calligraphy, but it will be interesting to see how Montblanc approaches it.

A tip of the cap and a bow to you for posting this link.

It's a truly outstanding video explaining the genesis of Montblanc Bespoke nibs.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
