Any thoughts about the burgundy Montblanc 144s?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone use a burgundy Montblanc 144 ballpoint or rollerball? I like the colour more than the black versions and was thinking about buying a pencil and ballpoint to match my early 1990s burgundy fountain pen. ( I like pen sets and wish they were still made).  I presume that the ballpoint will take the modern Montblanc ballpoint refills. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I use the burgundy 163R rollerball and the 164R burgundy ballpoint, and have for years.  I have three of the 144R burgundy fountain pens.  I have used these since 1983.  I like the size of the pens and the looks too.

The bordeaux range was nice but Montblanc no longer have many parts. if anything cracks or breaks it will have to be replaced with a black one.

Thanks for your replies! I ended up buying a 163 and have been using it few months now. It is a nice size pen and complements the fountain pen nicely. I've also picked up a black 144 with an OB monotone nib. Great pen.

I acquired three bordeaux sections as well as two black sections of the original type from the eighties with plastic section threads that take the original friction fit converter and a couple of converters.  On the original black sections the gold clutch ring at the tip of the section would eventually come off and the cap wouldn't stay on.  With enough spare parts you can use red or black.  I have other spares too, including 2 bordeaux and one black pens that I don't use.  Acquiring these was less costly than sending pens through Montblanc's repair works in Texas, which is now closed.  I will be spared the resulting rigmarole.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
