Haha Ranga pens must commission you for advertising sometime!

Just trying to nudge you in the 'right" direction 😁

Add lightness and simplicate.

The Abhimanyu's section suits may hand better than the Ranga 3

Can you describe the difference?

Add lightness and simplicate.

There is quite a lip at the lower end of the section. Look at the difference on the Ranga site.

The red and black ebonite sure is pretty.

What's the size of that pen?  Not actually looking, per se, but I do really like the feel of ebonite....

Thank you. Looks like the usual length and 11mm - 12.5 width?

The majestic is in my wish-list :) , though I like the appearance of this pen with dual tone color (black at either ends) and rings on cap..

Karmachanic's Ranga 3 is in premium ebonite which is quite a lot different from regular ebonite.

Regular is rather coarse while premium is very smooth, rather silky, also slightly heavier that regular ebonite (It's as though the material is more compact).

I'm not sure though whether Karmachanic has chosen to leave his premium unpolished, which may make it more matt (he mentions semi-gloss, is that a custom finish?)

The Model 3 is a rather long pen by normal standards, but approx the width of a M800, the section tapers a bit and some find it too thin (not a problem for you, you are used to much smaller pens, with all those vintage, Ruth :))

a picture of the Abhimanyu, to check the section.

When I have the chance I'll take one next to the model 3.

I asked for the finish to be midway between polished and matte. My pens are, for the most part black. Matte black Ebonite is my favourite finish, but I thought this particular Ebonite would benefit from a slight polish. I'm happy with the result.

Is the section on the Abhimanyu 11-12.5mm? I do like the traditional wide lip.

yes, that's the size. The step down is also really unobtrusive, I was skeptical but it does not bother me at all, probably as it's so long and also smoothed out.

Given the choice I'd like something a little wider, which means I'd have to forgo the lip, and that would change the visual balance of the pen.  Not that I'm looking for another pen at this point. I have two on order, and that should do me for quite some time.

Add lightness and simplicate.

but it's fun to think about it, given the fact that if you ask Ranga, they'd do it for you!!

Same reason that makes me wonder about a Ranga 3.5... :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
