which pen would you prefer in the list

I love the B nib in my Custom URUSHI. But then I love the BB nib in my Custom 845, the FA nib, the C nib, the B nib, the F nib, the M nib in various Pilot pens I have. I also love Sailor 21K Zoom, etc., and the 14K nib, too. I like my Platinum 3776 M because it never give me any hard start or ink skipping.

Just wanted to say a couple things as I have experienced all of the nibs...

PILOT #5: I find their (regular) nibs rather 'mushy'. Have not used their 'soft' nibs so I cannot comment on that. Personally, their various vintage and modern Elite nibs are more enjoyable to use as they possess a nice rigidity without overdoing it, (unlike the vintage manifold nibs on Esterbrooks and certain Wahl Eversharps).

Sailor 1911S: Lots of people enjoy them. I don't get them and probably never will. It has a fairly unique smoothness that retains a little bit of 'drag'. The nib 'structure' itself is somewhat Jowo-like, it does not give the user an impression that the nib is rigid or soft.

Platinum 3776: Very different than the other two... Nib has a fair amount of feedback, but has the 'suspension' of a nicely tuned sports car. I could overspeed, (whatever that means) with the nib and it goes along with the movements of my arm without any hiccups. HOWEVER, I could care less for the 3776's body... Not a big fan of its material or that big 'ole step.

If I had to pick one of them it would be a toss up between the 74 or the 3776. Like the nib of the 3776 and the body of the 74. However, if I could choose, I would by a Pilot Elite and (if its vintage) get it tuned or repaired by the wonderful people at Pilot Japan.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
