Could I put a FPR 14k or Edison 18k nib in a Conklin Duragraph?

Hello!

I love the look of many Conklin pens, especially the Duragraph, and the steel JoWo nibs are just fine, but I would love to put a gold nib in it. I saw that both Edison and FPR make gold nibs (I especially like FPR because it is $20 cheaper) in the #6 size and was wondering if anyone thinks this is a good idea or if anyone has ever tried it. Thank you for your help!

Conklin now uses Jowo, your best bet would be to get a Jowo gold nib. Jowo feeds are slightly different from those of several other nibs, because Jowo nibs have slightly wider shoulders.

It might be risky to get a FPR gold nib unless someone has already tried.

Edison I believe to be re-branded Jowo, so should be good.

Alternatively you could look for a Jowo 14k nib on fpnibs.

PS just noticed it's your first post, would be good if you made a brief introduction of yourself ;)

Thank you for your response! Do you know if it would fit well inside the Conklin? Like would it be loose-fitting?

As for an introduction, I am.. well let’s just say I’m younger than most people on this forum, I collect coins (mostly U.S.- just got a 1895 Liberty Head Half Eagle after saving up for 4 years), collect fine china (my favorite pattern is Woodland by Royal Worcester), play the flute and piccolo, make cyanotypes, love genealogy, and tat, crochet, and knit. And, of course, I love fountain pens.

Oops just realized that I posted this in the wrong section! Posting it to “Of Nibs and Tines”. Hoping that’s the right place!

I haven't purchased a #6 gold nib from FPR, though I have a few of their steel nibs.  The steel #6 nibs won't easily fit into a JoWo housing, because their shape and configuration (especially towards the base or back of the nib) is different (see attached picture).  JoWo nibs will fit into FPR nib units (because they're slightly more 'compact'), but not vice versa.  I can't tell from the pictures on FPR website whether the #6 gold nibs are the same shape as their steel nibs - but you could always drop them a line to ask! I've always found Kevin to be responsive to my emails, and keen to help prospective customers.
