Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Colorverse Warped Passages

This is review #88 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Since this is one of a set (27 & 28), I'll be reviewing the other (Extra Dimension) next time. (This is the smaller bottle in the set.)  Cleanup was quick and easy.  In my daily use, the ink didn't take so long to dry.  Somehow, my feed must have really saturated before I did the review - that's the only explanation I have for the long dry time.  The zoom really captures the color for me.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Thanks as always Liz.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one - the colour's nice, but perhaps unremarkable, but the shading's nice. The dry time sounds like it might have been a fluke? Oh, and I love the name :)

I'm afraid I don't think it's won me over to the Colorverse -verse. I'll be interested to see what it's big partner's like :)

Not a fan of this colour. Glad you liked it...Like the name though. Anything with Warp makes me smile :)

Totally depends on the paper, and this one has a je ne sais quoi - at least for me.  It's really not like anything I already have, but isn't too different from Sailor Seiboku - maybe a little more muted.  I like this one best in the fine nib on the paper in my Rhodia Webnotebook.  I think it's a fatter nib that makes it look unremarkable (odd as that seems).

Anywho, Tuesday will be the next ink - Extra Dimension.

:) Ah, well.  The color probably warps on its way into becoming a Canadian colour. ;) :P   And yeah, sometimes Colorverse come up with really good names.

Liz how do you share your YouTube link... I forgot how to do it?

You mean here, to get it to embed in the post?  Just paste the link YouTube makes when you choose the "Share" option under the video (on a PC).  Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAScOVnXhfk

If you're using a phone, I can try the YT app on my Android device, but don't know if it's the same on other OSs.

Nice color, right up my alley, but...you know what's coming next, don'cha?  😜

I had a sample of one Colorverse ink, can't recall the name, but it was a turquoise-ish that was hard to clean.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

:) The dry-time seems an anomaly.  It may be that my feed got super-saturated.  But the hard part is you really can't get samples of these mini bottles that come in sets, so there's no way to try it.

I must have lucked out, at least the two in this set were easy to clean.

Some people would call 5ml of ink a mere sample, no matter how it is packaged and the effective price per ml; so, I'd contend that it is possible to try or sample quite a number of the Colorverse inks that are primarily available in 15ml bottles that are packaged with 65ml bottles of another colour in fixed retail packages.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Oh.  I knew about the 5mL size, but hadn't seen this pair before, and didn't realize they'd done all of them - but then, I hadn't looked at La Couronne du Comte.  Vanness offer the larger bottle (Extra Dimension) as a sample, but no such offer for this smaller bottle (Warped Passages).  Looks like Goldspot offers at least some of these.  Kinda expensive for a sample, but yeah, it is there.  Thanks!

I guess that's the thing: when I assess the availability of a product or service — including to American hobbyists — for the purposes of discussion with the community at large, I never limit myself to look at US-based suppliers only; and in fact US-based suppliers would by default be low on my search list.

My preferred suppliers are those that conditionally offer free international shipping to almost anywhere in the world (such that Americans aren't excluded, or disadvantaged compared to the majority of fountain pen users globally), and preferably with a reasonably low eligibility threshold in terms of the order value. Cult Pens, LCdC, Fontoplumo, PenGallery Malaysia, etc. are therefore always the first places I look when doing research.

Makes sense.  Shipping from the US to anywhere (other than maybe Canada) is awfully expensive, whereas for me in the US, it's generally cheaper to go with a US company and the postal service for shipping.

  • 11 months later...

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 275µm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
