I don't know about world-wide, but I think DCSS used to be the biggest one in the US.  I haven't been to that since they switched hotels, because it normally conflicts with the camping week for my other hobby -- but that's been officially been postponed until next year due to continued COVID safety concerns (the woman who was going to be in charge this year was taking cues from another member who is an ER doctor.  And yeah, knowing the doctor, I'll listen to what he says.

DCSS actually happening was being discussed at last week's Steel City Nibs zoom meeting.  For me that's still going to be a wait and see issue (I'm holding out for maybe getting to the Chicago Pen Show in the fall; and of course the Ohio Pen Show, which is the closest to a being a "local" show for me.  But I'll have to wait and see about DCSS.  I will be fully vaccinated by the middle of May, but I don't know about other circumstances yet.

Thanks for the info.  Hopefully, I get the opportunity to visit the DC show in my lifetime since I have a soft spot for vintage American pens.

Regarding the DC Pen Show.....Is the “Weekend Trader” entry available to anyone and not just those who are involved in trading or selling? I sure hope this show is indeed a go!

I'm hoping the pandemic will wane enough for the DC pen show to occur. I have a Waterman 92 that is in real need of maintenance.

atomix,

I don't see any new information on the DC show.  That being said, we made our hotel reservations for the August show.  We have always enjoyed the show and haven't been to any show since the Baltimore show in early 2020, so this should be lots of fun.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
