Montblanc Ballpoint - "PIX®" possibly removed from back of clip

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, and I hope you're all doing well.

I was at an estate sale last weekend waiting in line to pay and there was a table with jewelry and such next to me. I saw what looked like a Montblanc Meisterstück ballpoint pen on the table in a box. 9 times out of 10, they're junk copies. I picked up the pen and gave it a quick look and it looked legit. I zoomed in with my phone magnifier to look for marks and their quality. I looked at the neck of the clip and saw a serial number, the Germany mark...The Montblanc logo on barrel... It all looked perfect. I gave it a twist and it felt nice and smooth. The leather box is not original. The price for this pen? $3 USD!

After I got home, I disassembled the pen to give it a light cleaning and noticed on the back of the clip, the PIX® mark appeared to have been removed with an engraving machine or some other similar tool, which I found to be very odd. Has anyone see this before, or is this a harbinger for this being a suspect fake? I looked up the serial number and didn't find it on any list of known fakes.

I'd appreciate any insight. Photos for reference. Thanks, all.

Mark

The pen looks legit to me, although I've never owned a burgundy. I have no idea why the original owner tried to remove the Pix text on the back of the clip but being that the clip was removed previously in order for that to happen, the only risk here is that they switched bodies. But for $3 I think you got a great deal.

Thanks for the reply, and information, JCC. I appreciate it. It barely has any signs of use. Nice pen!

Hello:
The pen looks completely original. All the details are consistent.
I don't understand why to remove the PIX mark on the back of the clip. It's something you can barely see under normal conditions.
But if it's the only flaw in that piece, it's worth it, no doubt.
Best regards.

Thank you, Croma. True regarding the fact that it's not really visible under normal conditions. You'd have to really be looking for it. It is just so odd to have it removed.
