Hello there!

After reddit's r/fountainpens no longer satisfied me, i desperately began the search for a better fountain pen community.

I found it here!

I don't own any fancy pens but i do have:
Lamy Aion (Fine and Medium nib)
Lamy Safari (Fine and Extra Fine nib)

Ancient parker vector (heirloom?)

Pilot MR1 (euro version of the Metropolitan/Cocoon) medium nib (lost the nib somehow)

Pilot metropolitan plain black fine nib

Pilot prera black demonstrator with a medium nib.

Im always having a debate on a medium or fine nib! (would love if you, yes you, reading this, can post your opinion too!)

have a nice day

(sorry for the horrendous grammar)

Hello from the US!
You have a nice collection already in my humble opinion!

How about this- I love flex nibs.
To flex or not to flex? :)

Hi back! and a warm welcome from sunny Motueka.

Excellent start to the collection pennoob.

I don't have an Aion yet but I really enjoy Lamys too, both new and vintage.

I absolutely love writing with my Lamy Studio's! I have a few different colours and nib sizes.

My #1 favourite is a Lamy 1.1mm steel nib and second would be a Lamy 14k gold, Broad nib

Always happy to chat about stuff.

Great to see another pen enthusiast in NZ

See you around the topics.

G

Kia Ora from Wellington!

I think medium or fine depends on the brand (and potentially therein the softness of the nib).

I started out on Reddit too! I've been branching out into stubs and italics, and it's a great time even for day to day writing.

You've got some nice new pens, have you considered trying out some vintage? You can pick them up on trademe, sometimes inexpensively. Restored pens can be more expensive, but if you buy one that need's restoring there are pen repair humans about locally that can help!

I used John- john.vanessa@xtra.co.nz, who charges $40 for a re-sac, a tune up, and a bit of a clean, which is pretty reasonable ^_^

Brands like Waterman's, Conway Stewart, Onoto, and Sheaffer are pretty safe in terms of lasting quality usually (in terms of brands often found second hand here). They often give a really great writing experience  that is not often replicated faithfully in modern pens, so it's worth a try if you're interested.

Reach out if you're ever in Wellington and want to nerd out on some pens!

John Mc has recently done a great job on one of my 'Onoto' plunger restorations and is currently working on a second. They were just dippers and now I can't wait to use them fully inked!

We are incredibly lucky to have John so near us and taking on our vintage treasures.

I also buy from around the antique and auctions markets but love to buy new pens as well from Pat and Susanne at 'Inkt' Whanganui and Rene at 'Pen Classics' Wainuiomata.

Really enjoying the chat in Kiwi corner great to meet everyone and welcome to the newcomers.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
