Parker 51 sac protector

Good afternoon-

Snow day here in New Hampshire- I have been catching up on grading and planning, but am taking a break to ask a few questions-

I have a "parts collection" parker 51 that I am working on.

First, the new breather tube- has a small hole in it- that end goes into the feed, correct?  But the tube does not go far enough in to... align that little hole with the hole in the feed tube.  Am I correct in understanding this?  That IS how I have assembled it, and it seems to work... the pen pulls ink into the sac, and it write well...

Second-  are parker 21 sac protectors interchangeable with Parker 51?  Full size or demi size?  As of now, this "parts collection" 51 does not have a sac protector on it.  But it still writes, of course.

Sincerely,

Bob W

Correct, the new little hole end of the breather tube goes into the feed.  The hole should end up about 3/8" above the end of the feed.  I turn the hole 90 degrees away from the nib slit, I choose right or left depending on the state color to keep peace.

The sac protectors are different. Running el fresco shouldn't be an issue until the correct part is located.  While I've never seen one advertised for sale, it fits into that parts category I term "mostly postage".

Good evening-Thanks for the information- regarding the breather tube, that's pretty much what I figured, but I didn't twist the hole right nor left.  I hadn't considered political leanings- I was more concerned about the coriolis effect.  EIther way, the pen writes nicely as is.

And yes, without the sac protector, it writes just fine.  I will keep watching for the correct part- BUT... there seem to be different sized-threaded sac protectors, as the extra one that I DO have... is too large diameter, and will not work. I suppose I could pad it out a bit, and glue it...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
