I bought this at an antique shop for super cheap. I can’t find anything about it. It was made in USA and has an rubber ink sack. Is it worth trying to restore it? It’ll write but the tines aren’t aligned so it’s very scratchy and has poor ink flow

Maybe I'm mistaken, but this looks pretty darn warped to me...

It’s definitely got a curve to it but I didn’t know if it was just made that way to be “stylish” haha the pen itself is really short and the curved part sits at the base between my thumb and index finger

So it’s about worth the 1.25 I paid for it?

No, it's not "made that way".  It's warped.... :o  (Do a search on here for "banana pens" -- I think that's the term used in other threads for pens this badly warped).  I don't know enough about repairs to know if you will be able to replace the sac in it easily. or whether you'll be able to get the lever to work correctly.  Sorry.

Thanks. I’m still new to the world of fountain pens. I was able to replace the sac and get the lever to fill it pretty easily

Cool.  I'm just worried that the warped barrel will make it not fill completely or correctly.  But in the long run, you learned a skill at the very least.

I have been looking for any other information on this pen and found nothing

My gut tells me that this was as it came out of the factory but itt is so long ago and there is so little actual evidence, it could have been warped, it could have been made that way.

That part of the puzzle doesn't really matter.

You can restore anything you want, it is your pen after all but you need to bear in mind that you will not increase its value.

Personally I would think of it as a learning curve.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
