My order might have been canceled.

So for my Birthdays I had ordered a Namiki Nippon art fountain pen after waiting for more than Two months and the seller (very reputable local shop) tentatively informed me that the pen I have ordered might not be available in the next few months and asked me if I wanted refund or a different pen. So I am bit torn. Should I wait for many month in hopes that they will manage to obtain my Namiki Nippon Art Mt. Fuji and Wave or should I ask for a different pen. What would you all recommend to me as a replacement? The shop suggested Montblanc 145 or The slimmer Red duofold? I am bit miffed I was really looking forward for this pen.

Cheers Milan

If I had paid and was advised my order wouldn't be available for months then I'd definitely cancel and get a refund. Not wait and not have something else that maybe wasn't in the plan.

I can certainly feel your apprehension or uncertainty. I think I would wait — seems like you have your heart set on the Namiki. Or, take the refund and try a different vendor for the same pen?

Hello MilanKov,

I would take this advice.  Too many things can go wrong when a special order is protracted out over months.

Better to have the cash in hand and get it when it becomes available - IF it becomes available.

Hey you all, first thing THANK YOU for responding. I admit I will be probably asking for the refund. I have also contacted local Pilot branch, if they will be able to give me any date when they would ship these pens into my country, as I am bit reluctant of ordering this pen directly from Japan.

Cheers all Milan

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
