Hello from Belgium!

Hi everyone,

After enjoying the forum for months as a visitor, I decided to join the band, drop in and say hello!

I always liked fountain pen but for some reason only recently started using them again.

Over this past year, I'd say I additionally developed an acute addiction to inks... it's like there is always a need... already have a nice collection of bottles and samples but there's always a new ink that looks particularly appealing and that I feel the need to try... sounds like an addition doesn't it? 🙂

And I think it is going worse... I now feel the need to try and mix some of them together... ah... forgot to mention, I am a chemist. ⚗️

In terms of tools, I mostly use a blue FPR UltraFlex Himalaya v2 inked with OS-Nitrogen to fulfills my sheen needs (amazing combo, this pen is a gem and really affordable - the ebonite feed provides such a nice wet flow to the smooth nib), a Falcon FA inked with Noodler's Black Swan and a Sailor pro-gear M inked with Sailor's Yamadori for my shading needs (both really great pens), a micro-knurl black Cross Century II M inked with Aurora's black and a Kaweco Perkeo inked with R&R Verdigris for everyday's work. I also have 2 Lamy Joy and 2 pilot parallel pen for more artistic needs.

On my test list are: diamine November rain and Monteverde Copper Noir for which I have a new orange FPR Himalaya that is just arrived!

As for paper, I mostly use Rhodia notepad for work stuff and treat myself to some Tomoe River paper which is my favorite even if I would prefer something a bit more thick.

Recently tested Clairefontaine Notepad Triomphe which seems nice as well.

Thanks for having me!

Loke

Welcome! You will find lots of good information here and way too many suggestions to expand your collection of inks and pens.

Belgium is a beautiful country and I am proud to be honored by her and a member of a Royal Society there. Hopefully, you can find some interesting vintage pens in your area.

Stay healthy.

Cheers,

Ozzy

Welcome Loke,

My Flemish is rusty- I lived in Antwerp 2003-4. I loved my time in Belgium- miss it often.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
