Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Kobe #28 Lily of the Valley Green

This is review #73 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: The color is a bit more yellow than the zoom photo shows.  (Not sure what's up with the screenshot, but best to look at the swatches in the video or the zoom for color.)  Cleaning was fast and easy.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

That's a nice looking color -- just the sort of green that really floats my boat.  Of course, I already have a bunch of greens that are similar to this.  But might go on the shopping list anyway, at least as a sample; I've been playing with a different Kobe ink (#70 Rokku Forest Blue) and while I haven't made up my mind about the color, the ink seems to be very well behaved.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Oh my.  That's nice.  Sigh.  So many inks, so little time.

Yes, I think this is a Kobe / Sailor thing. :)

Great review Liz!

I wonder if Makhabesh was smoking something... :D

Ink companies come with weird names.... this one is one the many few :D

Thanks!

Makhabesh was not smoking anything. ;)

I do think this ink is pretty well named - it really does look rather leafy - sort of like the leaf left and above center, with a little bit of light coming through it.

I think it's beautiful! I'm trying so hard not to love rather a lot of the Kobe inks...

Thank you for another excellent review.

Thank you for another excellent review.

:)  You're very welcome!  And yes, the Kobe inks could be a rather expensive addiction...

I reckon at this stage that I have at least 12 perfect greens, and still I covet more :)

Thanks for another cool review.  I have Maiko, and on the screen, Lily looks similar.  But it's probably not.  😝

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

:) You're not alone! It's a disease. Fortunately, it's an enjoyable one.

They are very similar. Maiko is darker, Lily a little more yellow.

Really nice green... I like it a lot. This is exactly the type of green that always manages to seduce me. But I’m going to be strong, and skip this one. Too many inks in the to-try stash... I’ll simply enjoy this one here on the forum.

Best wishes to you and your exercise in inky discipline! ;)  You might want to stay away from Vanness's site for a while...

With all the travel restrictions, ordering ink from overseas, makes all pen/ink shopping temptations much more easier :(;)

I ordered some samples for Europe.... I'm still waiting for them to arrives, and that was early January

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
