Hello

My name is Bob.

My first exposure to fountain pens was after my grandmother passed away in 1986.  I was helping to clean out her garage and found an old fountain pen that my father used in school.

I was so intrigued by it that I couldn't put it down.  I was in 9th grade at the time.

Got made fun of by my "friends" whenever I used it so I threw it away... :(

Many years later I was walking through a store and saw a cross fountain pen in titanium with gold accents that I loved and purchased in an XF nib.  Loved that pen until it got lost in a move.

Currently using a pilot prera with an italic nib, two metropolitans (one fine and one medium).

I am wanting to move up the scale a little and have been researching the Eversharp Skyline, Parker 51, and the Sheaffer snorkels.  But I don't know much about vintage and it is a bit scary to me and don't know where to look and don't want to be taken advantage of.

Looking forward to reading and learning from this forum!

Thanks

Bob

Welcome sir. You will find a lot of great information here and you will get even more suggestions to expand your collection.

I was just looking at a Parker Blue Diamond Vacumatic but it needed a new sack and seals, but seeing that i have no experience with them i decided to pass.  Keep researching and good luck.

Try a Jinhao x450 and a Wing Sung 698, great writers, inexpensive but look good.

Cheers, Ozzy

Welcome to FPN! I found my first and only vintage pen at a pen show, where I was allowed to try it before buying. Meeting the seller in person was reassuring as well.

I am no expert but if you can wait for an in-person pen show (post pandemic?), you might find many choices for a vintage in good condition from a reputable seller.

Where in Utah are you located at, Bob?  Running Ute aka Brad Merrill,  in somewhere in the metro Salt Lake City area, and  I think  Greg Christiansen at Provo used to run the Wasatch Pen Collectors Club, I think he is on the BYU faculty.

I live out in Tooele county.  I have seen Running Ute on some of the shaving forums that we are on.  I haven't had the pleasure to meet either of them though.

Looking forward to getting to know them better.

Thanks

Thank you Wahl.

Are you a lover of the Wahl pens, or is that a family name?
