I've been thinking of trying one of the Galen Leather notebooks.  Do you prefer the Midori because of the paper?  Or something about the notebook's design/construction?

For me it’s definitely a design/construction component, I almost feel like the Midori MD is sturdier and more rugged. Granted I use a padfolio so nothing is really exposed to the elements, but there is just something about the build quality and the lay flat component that I prefer. 
 

In terms of the paper quality, I think I prefer the MD as I don’t really use too many sheen or shimmering inks. I’ll keep a TR notebook handy at times but will definitely keep the Midori as my EDC.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
