Mont Blanc 149 friction fit repair

Hi everyone, I recently acquired a MB 149 with the friction fit piston. Initially it was stiff to turn and I didn’t want to force it so I soaked it in water and eventually got it to turn and move the piston up and down. It was still a little stiff and not smooth in my opinion. I was still able to fill with water and continued to flush several times. Yesterday I noticed there was a few drops of ink trapped behind the seal that will not come out. My question is who on this forum is the go to guru these days that can work on friction fit 149s? I want to get it serviced and lubed up so that it’s smooth and get the ink out of there.  I want to keep it as original as possible.thanks in advance, Mark.

I don't have the answer to your question, but it would be helpful to others if we knew in which country you reside.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I would lubricate other versions of the 149 from the back, by unscrewing the piston assembly and applying silicone grease.  Obviously that’s more difficult and risky with these.  However,  you can still go in the front.  

 

If you’re really only wanting to lubricate, you can do it from the front.  You remove the nib unit the same way as you would with other post 1950s pens, with a notched tool.  

 

MB used a special tool to remove friction fit pistons. It looked like a vise and held the front end while pulling out the piston assembly.  I know a Japanese collector who has the MB tool.  Also, some fellow here was saying that he had pulled the piston on his own 1960s 149.  I think he said he would post pictures sometime.

If it was my pen I wouldn't risk trying to fix it myself. If you're in the US and you can make contact with Kirk Speer of Pen Realm then maybe he might be able to assist?

I would need it serviced properly since there is ink on the other side of the seal, the seal needs to get inspected to be sure it is not compromised. I’m thinking there was dry ink and the seal was pushed over it allowing it to get behind the seal.
