Lightsaber Red

Recommended Posts

I have to do a lot of grading, editing, and annotating and I have traditionally used Noodler's Antietam. I am thinking of switching my grading pen over to my piano black Lamy Dialog3 and I am looking for a ink that will give it a Darth Vader Lightsaber vibe. I'm looking for something that is a very vibrant true red, and that will play nice in my pen. Water resistance is a plus but not a necessity.

Any recommendations that I should sample?

I haven't used Antietam, but I like Noodler's Park Red, which is pretty waterproof but well behaved.  It's a very bright red that leans just a little pink (as opposed to the ink that I consider a "true" red -- Diamine Classic Red -- which I also really like.

Hello Junker Jorge. Red inks are fantastic! I am using Diamine Red Dragon, but I believe the ink you are looking for is Diamine Wild Strawberry. Regards

Not sure, but to my eyes, Darth Vaders light saber looks like the color Nike calls infrared. There is an ink made by Caran d' Ache Infra Red. A bit pricey, but maybe something along these lines?

That looks great. Interesting story too. I will have to sample it. Thanks.

I'm no expert either but that looks pretty close. I wonder if I can get this in sample form. I'll have to look into it. Awesome, thanks.

I think you have a pretty wide latitude for reds.  If you look at a still from one of the movies, Vader's lightsaber is nearly white in the center of the image, with a gradient to a pinkish halo.  I think "red" is something that our brains fill in, as if it's obviously a red thing that is glowing white-hot.  An ink that evokes that idea would be awesome.

It's a neat request.  In hindsight it seems obvious, like why isn't Cross offering Star Wars inks to go with their pens?

Ha. Yeah, I'm not an über fan or anything so I am not so much about the actual color as the "feel" if that makes sense.

It does seem like there are a lot of missed opportunities in the ink market related to stuff like this.

Escaping the topic a little, to talk about the wave of sparkling paints, Pelickan Moonstone already had some nuances when Pelikan Gold Beryl comes with this very strong vibration.

I was imagining a sparkling red paint ....

Like Ruth, I am a big fan of Diamine Classic Red.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
