Hello from Scotland

Hi All!

I've had an account here for a while now, but never introduced myself.

I live in Edinburgh, Scotland, but I'm originally from Poland.

I love pens and ink. I particularly like cheap (and often surprisingly good) fountain pens. I also use dip pens a lot for drawing.

I thought it would be fun to attach a photo of my fountain pens and see how many of them you guys can recognize? (Some are not big brands, bought cheaply from China)

Hello there nataliazon! I've just joined the community and just writ up my intro not too long ago.

I love your collection a lot! I may be dumb so I won't name the number, but is one of those the Pilot Metropolitan?

I would also highly suggest the Hong Dian Forest Series Pens, Especially one w/ a Fude Nib as the Fude is super fun!

Hi Mar_! No Pilot Metropolitan in my collection (yet) but it's been on my wishlist for a long time (specifically I want to get either the version with the hounds tooth or the zebra pattern... can't decide!)
Which one did you think was the Metropolitan, was it number 7? It looks a bit like the PM

Thanks for the tip about Hong Dian Forest, I'll check them out.

6 actually was what I thought it was haha, I am quite new to pens and my recognition is weak :P
I just noticed the excessive taper 6 has vs a Pilot M.

I've no issues with this amazon order for the Hong Dian Black Forest pen. It's a dream to use especially when you twist pressure on the converter and get it writing wet with Parker quink Blue - Black ink. Oh but a dream.

So, any suggested threads to look at?

Fellow lover of a budget pen, I salute you :)

No. 3 in your pic is a Jinhao, I'm guessing an 892 since not many of them come in that lovely shell finish. That one's on my shopping list too :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
