¡Podemos hacer una en español también! Abre un post invitando a personas, y me cuentas a mi +1

Pero voy a tener que aprender el vocabulario de las estilográficas en español porque solo he leído/visto información en inglés.

Awesome!
The enthusiasm is hopeful... I’ll start looking into the tech

Excellent idea -- I never attended a pen meet-up (as far as I am aware, there aren't any in Belgium).

Tips I can offer from my experience of using videoconferencing for work and various social meetups:

Zoom is the most user friendly, but unless you have a paid account meetings are limited to 40 minutes long. You should always switch on the waiting room feature, which means someone has to manually click "admit" for everyone who joins - annoying but it stops people "zoom bombing", ie turning up with their idiot mates and spamming random images of porn or white supremacist nonsense purely to wind people up. Which I have seen happen. Zoom also has a nice feature whereby you can have PM conversations within the standard chat window. It seems to have been actually designed for socialising, rather than something that was originally created for work use and then repurposed because of COVID.

Microsoft Teams is my least favourite; I hate the user interface and it doesn't have flexible hosting like Zoom does (on Zoom you can make anyone you want a co-host, on MS Teams it's locked down according to which "organisation" you belong to, which is great if you're using it for work but not for general social stuff.)

Webex is powerful but HORRIBLY complicated. And I don't think it has a free version.

This is absolutely wonderful! I thought as well Zoom might be the best.... we could do a 40 min meeting to start. And if the thing picks up we can always look for someone who has a pro account or maybe I could get one depending on how many people decides to join. Let’s start with an international first? Then we could network in the event and see if smaller regional groups can be created, as well as in other languages.

Would anyone want to co-host it with me? I am new both to FP and FPnetwork but I’m very enthusiastic. We are actually going to make a feature of fountain pens at work for a social media post!

Send me a message if you want to co-host.
also some ideas on time and date?
I was thinking on a Saturday afternoon (London time, I’m in U.K.), as no one is really socialising right now.

@PAKMAN I am in LR and would like to attend; never went to the meetings before because I'm too old (33) to go out in the evenings. 😆

Is there a fee? Can you post or DM a link?

💌✍️ Snail mail rocks! 📬 🐌
I am currently on hiatus (too inconsistent)
but I admire those who do!

If you told me a year ago I'd ever feel comfortable with video conferencing... well that was a lifetime ago.  Zoom meetings are now a part of everyday life.  Love to join in.  Saturday afternoons (GMT) fine by me.

Could also attend the US meetups from Finland provided they are held on weekends. Already half-way caught in US time (my fiancée is stuck in CT).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
