Have not really made any pens lately as it has been a bit hectic. Made some time recently to make a pen from a bar of 3 metal twist pattern Mokume Gane. Made this a gift for a friend at Christmas who seems to enjoy simplistic designs and apparently liked just the rod. Polished to 600 grit, patinated and not sure how many coats of lacquer. Spray can top broke and and liquid started coming out so I just poured the contents on to the pen. Need exhaust fan in workshop/garage. Sports a Bock #6 polished nib with a German ebonite section. Apparently, I made a mistake by putting a clip on it. Couldn't help myself. Was fun making it. Hope you like it.

Looks great! I'm impressed by how well you've mated the cap and the body so that the pattern flows quite well across the divide.

 

I don't think the clip is a mistake, though the screw used to hold on the clip looks a touch out of place. Perhaps it would look better with a more decorative screw? Perhaps a jeweled bolt (by which I mean a bolt, so there's flats on the outside for using with a wrench, but some form of stone on the face) would look better? I mean, you could probably transform this screw by filing flats on the outside to match the hexagonal hole in the middle, then pour coloured resin into the middle (and a bit more so it bulges out a bit) so that you end up with what looks like a hexagonal jewel in a hexagonal housing.

I love these.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
