Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Monteverde Copper Noir

This is review #61 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: The color is a little brighter and more orange than the zoom shows.  Cleaning was simple with plain water and several flushes.  No sign of staining in pen or converter.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

This one looks really nice at least in the close up!

Quintus must be doing a lot of overtime it seems. He seems to be developing  a toe fetish, it doesn't help that it's with a sphinx and a "noir" one, en plus!

I think he might need to see Herr Freud, just in case ;)

Love the Picard quote, inspired :)

I really couldn't get the color right in the pictures.  It's definitely more orange than the closeup shows.  The closeup might be what it looks like from larger / wetter nibs, though.

Quintus was bound and determined to get into that sphinx!  He may be slightly obsessed with puzzles, or a bit too unwilling to admit defeat.  The toe fetish is a short-lived thing.

Well.  Hmm.  I suppose the back of my brain can ponder whether he'll need to visit Herr Freud at the end of this adventure.

That quote is from one of my favorite exchanges between Picard and Data.  The look on Data's face is classic.  (Season 1, episode 17, for those who want to go watch... :) )

Does your standalone camera, or driver software if using a USB-connected peripheral camera or video recording device, have a colour calibration function? If so, then having a commercially available colour calibration chart/card would help. I just had a look on Amazon.com (not .com.au), and I think you can get a couple of those for approximately US$12.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I THINK I have a sample vial of this ink.  If so, I will be sure to use it in a big wet writer.

Thanks for the review!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Unfortunately, it doesn't - it's just an old cell phone (that's no longer a phone, just an Android device).  My brother has told me about some super-fancy software that may help (and is free, as I can't justify spending lots of money on this).  I'm looking into it.

I'm guessing it will look lovely in a big wet writer.

You're welcome! :)

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 270µm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
