What about a Rhodia no. 11? It's A7 size, which is roughly 3x4, but at least you know what you're getting paper-wise with Rhodia.

Look at the Mnemosyne range from Maruman. They've got a whole bunch of top-bound notebooks. I personally prefer the 5x8 ones (big enough to really take notes/ideas), but they definitely have others.

Very fountain pen friendly, thin paper (in a good way, for travel) and good double spiral binding. They're also not horrendously expensive (relatively speaking!).

Jetpens has a good selection but so do a number of the "usual suspects".  I got some double packs pretty cheap on Amazon a while back, but it's definitely more hit or miss there and they definitely don't have the entire range available.

Try this,

http://www.e-maruman.co.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=1490

This series of notepads come in all formats, plain, lined, square gridded,

and they come in different sizes too.

I remember seeing as small at 3x5 top bound.

HTH

🙂

the paper is thin at only 60g , so you can expect shadow or showthru. But this is easily overcomed by placing a black sheet of paper under your writing page.

I use it for letter writing , cos it’s thin, and I can have a few pages folded over and it fits perfect in standard post envelope sizes.

the plain version comes with a sheet of line guides.

The cover I have doesn't work well with spiral bound notepads as the stapled cover top slides under a leather strip which keeps the pad in place via pressure.  I'm using AMPAD pads (like a mini legal pad) but they only support writing on one side as they bleed through....

Looks like Maruman still have what you want

https://www.jetpens.com/Maruman-Mnemosyne-N178A-Memo-Pad-Modified-B7-5-mm-Graph/pd/11415

Now, this is graph lined, and I didn't look hard to see if it comes in any other format.

I'm assuming it's the same paper. And I can assure you that even though I describe it as thin (which it is compared to Rhodia), there is absolutely no bleed through, and precious little show-through (unless you use a 1.1mm stub?!)

ETA: And if you manage to fill your cart to their free shipping limit it's only $3.55 which isn't bad to try out.

I think you want to look at their "speedy-style".

Jenni Bick has some molie reporters on sale:

FP usage on molie paper is not an issue for me, been using my pens in my molies for decades. On the form factors, you're not likely to be using both sides of the page.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
