Would love to see if there are any updates. I too have ordered a pen but was quoted 6 months. I have 0 patience so this will be tough. At least it’s not 13 months or whatever it is now for Hakase

What did you order? And put me in line for it when you change your mind. LOL

I have two of his pens. I am confident you will like yours.

Hahah :). I ordered the Hightaka 55 Urushi Col. Kurotame-nuri   It looks amazing. How do they write, zaddick? Say… compared to a emperor? I don’t mind soft as long as it’s not mushy.   I ordered a medium nib.1 does it hold true to Japanese size? (they are always a size smaller)

I ordered wide nibs and they are western width. I am sure of you expressed a specific line width desire it would be met. The nibs I have are much softer than Namiki #50. The times will spread but it is not a flex nib. You can vary the line width pretty easily with pressure.

There is also a raptor nib that I have seen, but not tried. You might want to ask about that. It is a different shape, thinner and pointy.

Writing sample of 2.5B nib no pressure on top, some pressure on bottom.

Oh, wow! You bought that exquisite demonstrator that Tohma was showing on Instagram. Would you perchance have a photo of that pen full of ink, just for penporn’s sake?

I have not inked mine yet. I'm still enjoying taking pics of it while it is as clean as it will ever be. But a friend of mine has inked his so I stole so e photos from his IG account. Full credit to Jack for these photos. (To be fair he got his well before me so he had his time to enjoy the pen uninked too.)

Wow. Amazing pics. Thank you for this Zaddick. I love huge pens(emperor is one of my favorites) so I think this will be a perfect fit for me.   Now I just have to decide if I’ll go for a medium or fine. Leaning towards a medium.  I’m hoping the 6 month timeline holds firm. Me and patience go together like tuna fish and peanut butter.

on a side note, I wonder how this pen will travel (by plane). Seems the shut off valve system is pretty robust.

These pens look wonderful, but I'm done buying 'statement' pens that don't fit me for purpose. That means no more Emperor size pens. I'd love to see these (with that epic nib) in a Yukari Royale size...

Too many pens; too little writing.

I think the pen I ordered is smaller than their outer offerings. I wonder if you could stop order something like that ?

The picture from Jack shows the raptor nib option. If you are going for that and want something pretty responsive you should inquire about that option.

You can definitely get shorter pens, and probably thinner to an extent, as long as you are open to sacrificing ink capacity.

Thanks guys. I may have to shoot them an email as a (reliable) eyedropper in a Yukari Royale size would scratch a rather large itch.

I've had good luck on IG. If you need an intro or are not hearing back let me know and I can reach out. I'd be curious to see what might be available.

He did post a smaller pen with a smaller than no.55 size nib earlier on - saw a pic of it on reddit too I think, so he's making smaller pens/nibs as well (though not sure if he still is.) Some of his smaller nibs looked really interesting to me

I’ve reached out on IG a couple of times and tried email. No luck in terms of response. Any suggestions? The pens are quite unique. Thank you!

Hmmm... did you send him a DM? That's how I procured mine a year ago, and he responded pretty quickly. I wonder if he has too long of a waiting list right now?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
