Birmingham Nano Pigment Inks

I’m not sure how many others saw this, but I n the hiatus, Birmingham Pens released a number of new inks, including several with nano pigments labeled as “permanent and waterproof.”  Their site looks flush with inks at the moment (recently they have not had many inks available).  I don't particularly seek out nano pigment or waterproof inks, but I know others are interested, and Birmingham is a small company that doesn’t get a great deal of exposure, so I thought I’d pass along the info.  I have no affiliation, but have enjoyed the 4-5 inks I have bought from them in the past.

I tried to post a link but it doesn’t seem to be working in FPN-bug in new system?

I just bought four of the new BP inks including one of their 'everlasting' series, Interstate 376 Black Ice. Since I keep only one pen with permanent ink in it and am using up the last of my Salix, I have not filled with it yet. May try for a review when I do.

Of the other inks, I've only yet tried Waterfront Dusk, which is a unique, fascinating ,violet gray brown, and seriously wet.

Now that it's been a month, have you had a chance to experiment with your new "Everlasting" inks?  If so, what do you think of them?  How's your experience rinsing them out of a pen?  I'm pretty interested in Black Ice.

Of all the permanent inks I have tried, Black Ice is considerably the prettiest. Good flow, not dry like most of them, an actually interesting color. IA wee bit on the pale side, but not to an unusable level at all. You should try it!

I’ve had Black Ice in a Lamy Safari for the past month.  It continues to be easy to rinse out of the pen, with no staining of the convertor after a month.  I’ve also tried another of their new inks, Aluminum Oxide, which is not “Everlasting” / nano pigment containing, but is a similar color and also has significant water resistance.  Chimney Soot is another “Everlasting” ink I’ve tried, a dark grey, and it’s performance is similar to Black Ice.

Excellent news, thanks to you both for your feedback on the new inks!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
