Red Tortoiseshell M600

Recommended Posts

WooHoo! My M600 Red Tortoise finally arrived today. I like it a lot, but I find the "tortoise" more yellow than i expected. And the yellow is kind of mottled with red. It is much redder and less yellow than the recent M101N tortoise. The red tone is close to that of the the M101N Red.

I ordered a B nib and had it ground to a 0.8 mm crisp cursive italic. It writes a dream.

Some photos, for your enjoyment:

Are the first and the last customized M600?

Well, my Blood Orange finally arrived and I inked mine up, a perfect match!

But imagine my dismay at the width of the line and the horror of my discovering I had somehow received a B nib. Naturally, I assumed a mistake on their end but, no, the ordered clearly shows "Broad". Fortunately, Cult is quite willing to do a nib swap, I just have to send it back, so there's that.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Alfredo

The first comes from the limited edition series of 500 brown tortoise fountain pens & ballpoint pens set commissioned by Maruzen of Japan in 1999.

The last is either a Pelikan prototype or ‘lunch time special’ with sleeve from the M101N green tortoise.

Gorgeous tortoiseshells! Very jealous--especially of the Japanese brown tortoise. There's just something about that material that makes the most elegant of pens.

agreed.  They call the recent m101n "tortoise", but not really, IMHO....

Nice, two rare birds.

As a general note I have to say that after having checked this thread I ordered a red tortoise M600 on Amazon, it should arrive late today.

Alfredo

Edited: pen is arrived, here there is its photo with other red themed Pelikan.image.thumb.jpeg.3e7f9c1deeabc54219bc0d91c98c48c2.jpeg

Nice trio red pelikans. By the way, did you paint the Pelikan name at the captop of M101N brown tortoise? Nicely done!

Here’s the foursome red pelikan..

I bought the M101N red tortoise from a previous owner and I thought that the paint in the inscription was a standard feature. Anyway I like it.

I just noticed that the word Pelikan appears on the cap. Something I did not notice, and I ink each of the m101n I own once a week.

I'm enjoying my Red Tortoise M600 with a custom-ground CI nib by Dan Smith. Seen here with a red pen friend from Leonardo.

Nice Leonardo. Is that tapered section on the Leonardo comfortable while writing?

The Leonardo section is a bit unusual in appearance, but it is extremely comfortable (for me) to write with.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
