Excellent Review!!
Convinced me to pick up a bottle from PenBoutique on today!
Loving how this ink shades so beautifully, and even though I find no brown in it...the violet tones that it gives more than make up for the lack.
I've been interested in "Gray" inks lately and I believe this scratches that itch perfectly.
I'm also impressed at how well this ink flows considering it's kinda dry! I never have to do anything extra to get great flow and shading from this ink so far...it just WORKS!!
Definitely going into my "TOP-TEN" inks!!!

And thank you for bringing up this old thread! I like Herbin inks in general and I had been thinking about getting this one as my ‘grey’ ink, but I couldn’t decide. Tried a sample of this ages ago and didn’t like it for the purpose that I can’t even remember anymore now but I am still fascinated by the color. I think I will be getting a bottle after all on my next ink order.

Wow...small update.
I ordered a bottle of this ink back in 2022.
It arrived and had a more purple tone to it...didn't understand why.
So I put it away in my box of inks and let it sit...until last week Wednesday.
In my efforts to use inks that I normally do not, I decided to load up a fill of "Cacao Du Bresil" and have some purple-grey fun.
Well...to my surprise, what I received was a cool grey-tan result that blew my socks off!
I had to write a few pages of text to make sure it wasn't some residual ink in the hold causing the change in coloration.
But apparently it has "Matured" over the time that it has been sitting in the dark and has changed coloration to what it is advertised to be.

I am over the moon!

Excellent! I ended up ordering a bottle of it myself and I am loving the color!! It’s a great grey. I’m not sure why I didn’t like it before when I had a sample, but I think maybe I was expecting it to be more of a real brown. Now I’m glad I gave it another go because it’s actually become one of my favorites.

Awesome! Glad to hear your bottle is right-as-rain also!
I've been wavering between "R&K - Sepia" and "Iroshizuku - Yama-Guri" the past few months.
Each of them have their detriments...

However, "Cacao Du Bresil" now excels beyond both of the two forerunners as it's lighter in tone compared to the "R&K" ink,

and not so overly wet like the "Iroshizuku" ink.
The best of both worlds!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
