pgomme
I recently bought an Aurora 88P. It leaks from a hole in the barrel. The hole is roughly 1mm in diameter and perfectly round. Can someone tell me the purpose of this hole, and what I can do to stop the leak?
Nethermark
Aurora 88’s have a hole in the barrel to even out the pressure from moving the piston. I assume, this is the hole you’re mentioning. Ink coming out of this hole indicates that the piston seals need to be replaced.
pgomme
I was afraid of that.
BamaPen
I have an illustrated article on repairing an Aurora 88k, which should be very similar to your 88p. It probably shows more than you need to do to yours, but take a look, it may help. Scroll down the post a little ways and you'll find the step by step article. https://cigarboxpenstorage.wordpress.com/2017/02/16/my-aurora-88k/ John My Cigar Box Pen Storage Blog <>
pgomme
John, Thanks for the tip. I already came across your blog. It turns out that what I needed to do was much simpler, requiring far less disassembly -- only the front end. I found another post here on Fountain Pen Network with instructions on how to replace the piston seals. I also found suggestions that tightening the nut on the seal assembly might do the trick. Doing so seemed to push out the sides of the seal, and I added a light coat of silicone grease. The pen now works, without leaks. No doubt I'll need to work on the seal assembly at some future date.
