Thanks for the link inkypete and a bit of company history too. I see there were quite a few pieces in the set.

Good sharing desk accessory chat with you. I do have one 1950's Pelikan ashtray in Burgundy. Since I don't collect ash I use it as a pen tray. Got any interesting Pelikans?

I continued on as usual. Not that many acquisitions, but I did land two Moore pens of a fairly rare nature to add to a mini-collection of that brand I have going. It was also more time for an upward tick in my correspondence, which I still consider one of the only true benefits of the COVID downtime.

Oh, and I started a thread on FPG to welcome members of FPN during the site downtime, as a place for news to be posted and people to stay in touch. Of course, that kind of thing doesn't get mentioned here, just the usual ragging on what goes on at another forum. It is what it is, and I won't ever expect to see a similar thread here if anything goes south at geeks, but you never know. And, as I mentioned in that thread, I made sure to thank the FPN team in a thread for all their work behind the scenes to bring FPN back to life.

Have a fine Sunday, play with your pens and ink!

I have the green Pelican ceramic pen stand, but thats about all. Have a few more things tucked away in the garage. Must get them out and remind myself what is there.

And it was very much appreciated. I didn't notice who started that thread, so I'm pleased you have mentioned it here - thank you.

Will work for pens...

Good idea Pete. You are probably sitting on a gold mine 😄 There is a blue/green Pelikan ash tray that appears to match the Burgundy one I have. It came up on a pen paraphernalia site for over $200USD. I wish I could afford it! Mine cost me $27NZD at a local trading site!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
