Dearest Members and Visitors of the Fountain Pen Nuthouse,

NOTE: Your new login user name now is your old Display Name, alternative login option is your email address!

As you may know by now, due to the database problems we encountered, our hand hands been forced regarding an upgrade of our forum software.

Despite the time this has taken, there are quite a few distinct advantages to the new forum software and all the upgrades done.

  • It is better protected against hacking and malware, as security flaws have been fixed by using the lastest database and programming environments.
  • The site will become https entirely rather than just the login screens.
  • Registration of new members can be automated once again.
  • Separation of donation options with regard to no advertising is no longer necessary, so they have been combined.
  • The old Shoutbox has been replaced with a better engineered chat option, the Chatbox.
  • We migrated to a better and bigger server, at a slightly lower cost than before.
  • The rather clumsy image storage options have been replaced with a Gallery, with a fantastic drag and drop system. No more code to be typed.
  • A better version of a Classifieds add-on has been installed. It can be linked to the Gallery as well for images.
  • Anonymous initial email to Classifieds sellers from the user profile is back!
  • And many more advantages, too many to mention here.

A few issues remain, which will be resolved over the next couple of weeks.

Badges, Trader Feedback and Adverrts have some small installation issues, and as soon as thoese are fixed, they will come online again.

The old Classifieds could not be upgraded, so we unfortunately have to start with an empty, but better Classifieds section.

As a thank you for your patience, all supporters and premium account holders have been allocated an extra month plus 15 days as a bonus for the down time.

Warm regards, The FPN Admin Team

Phew! Well done all for your hard work 👏

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Just wanted to add: until FPN disappeared for a month I didn't realize just how much I depend on the steady stream of familiar voices that post here regularly as a light break from my daily work, routines, and (especially) current events  You've been missed.

Thanks so much for all the work the Admins have done in the last few weeks to get FPN back online, and for keeping us regularly updated throughout.  It's tremendous to have you back.

Thanks to all who worked on the update and improvements. I am sure that there are many of us who never realized how much we engage with FPN until it was down.

Thanks for all the work and effort, its never easy to mitigate the server especially when one has to protect data while handling the issue that can damage the very thing trying to protect and then are tons of other reasons long and short which cause issues. All in all glad everything got sorted out well.

PS- gotta love the new look of FPN at least for me. looks nice and sleek if I may put it that way plus lighter shades of overall color looks nice and matches most modern themes of imaging and sites plus larger file size limit (might need less editing now:D), still exploring other stuffs though, Cheers for that.

Thank to the magicians who brought back fpn. I don't post here like I do on reddit, but the time offline sure made me appreciate not just the dedication of the folks that make this place run, but the years of knowledge, opinions and so forth that we all love and use. THANK YOU

Thanks for all the work to get the site back up and upgraded!

By the way, I forgot which email address I used for my login so I tried to use my display name. My current display name did not work but my *original* display name did.

I can only imagine how frustrating the last month has been. I'm looking forward to relearning the site. Thanks for keeping the hobby going!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
