Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Graf von Faber-Castell Olive Green

This is review #47 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This color doesn't like cameras. The video is closest to the correct color. The photos are off.

Cleaning was simple except for one thing - the ink had managed to seep into a part of the section I cannot reach physically. I suspect the bits of my poor penmanship may be coming unglued, or something. Anywho, I put it through the sonicator for that, but I consider this an issue with the pen, not the ink - the ink cleaned out of everything else easily.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Oh, so Foxy left and joined the hound,

and all is left is the lazy dog..... with the fifth wizard who knows the truth that will save the dog of this doggone world...... :(

Nice colour by the way.. I often wonder if I'm looking forward to the inks, or the inky serial, with multiple colourful characters with an ink(full) past.....

I appreciate your comments either way! Thank you! :)

Olive Green is a very nice color - I bought a whole bottle. I find it quite frustrating when a color refuses to be photographed. It also seems bizarre which ones do and don't reproduce well...

I take a lot of photos of flowers, with subpar equipment.... The blue range is so difficult.... lavender always show blue and blues often purple.....

I guess inks are not immune ;)

Some inks are like that one person in the family who always makes a funny face just before you snap the family photo.

Arghh. Im falling for these GvFC inks big time.

Lovely review as ever. Thank you.

Thanks! Midnight looks appealing to me, but I haven't paid much attention to the others. The wonderful performance of this ink makes me think the brand is worth exploring. And the bottles are very snazzy looking - or would be, if there were anyone around to see it sitting on my desk (in its box, in a cubby hole...). OK, maybe the bottle isn't that big a factor, but it is nice looking.

This is one of my two default olive greens--the other being KWZ IG Green Gold. If you dilute KWZ IG Green Gold a bit with water, it looks very very similar to KWZ Olive Green, perhaps a touch more saturated/vibrant. The two have similar water resistance in that form (stock GvFC and diluted KWZ). I think I would prefer for the GvFC Olive Green to be just a bit more saturated in color. It's just a tad too gray for me.

Thanks for the added comparison. I would definitely call GvFC Olive Green a bit muted (though not much like my photos :(). It's not my favorite murk green (which is my eternal hunt), but well within the range I like. :)

Thanks for another review! I can't remember whether I ever had a sample of this but I do have a vial of Maiko.

It might be a touch pale for me....

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

You're welcome!

In a dry nib, it'll be pale, but in a wet nib, it's really quite nice, but definitely paler and murkier than Maiko.

Did fox drink too much Red Bull?

Olive green sits in the "icky color box" for me. It was grudgingly that Callifolio Olivastre was purchased at all, and then as a sample only.

That's OK, all the more for us murky / strange green lovers! :)

Have you tried GvFC Moss Green, lovely shading, gorgeous colour and on TR52, a bit of sheen. It is always in one of my daily writers.

I find the color to be quite beautiful honestly...it matches with my rooms walls color too.

I am looking for a green ink myself currently (don't have any in my collection and am in actual need of one for work) this might be a compelling option, bit different and bit personal touch plus fact that it behaves well on absorbent copy paper is plus for me.

Nice review as always thanks for them.

Walls this color might be a bit much for me, but it sounds like you should definitely get yourself a sample of this ink! :)

Thanks!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
