Vroman's In Pasadena Suffering Under Covid ... Buy Something :)

Vroman's is a neighborhood gem in Pasadena and after over 100 years in business COVID has put the crunch on them. They carry a large stockpile of inks, pens, and paper on their second floor. If you are nearby, pay them a visit. Their website is getting an update and their finewriting section is yet to be updated but they have cabinets full of ink. Shopped there yesterday... they are good people. Just putting this out there as there are too few b&m stores like this left

Thanks MHBru. Supporting our local small businesses is important in these times.

I will put in a plug for Dromgoole's, Houston's great pen shop. If you are in Houston you should visit them. Likewise if I am in Pasadena Vroman's is on my must see list.

Love all, trust a few, do harm to none. Shakespeare

Their website has a variety of gifts, activity books, Halloween items and totes to carry all that.

Reusable totes are great to present gifts, especially the ones appreciated in our Forum.

They are primarily a bookstore, independent bookstores have their own audio book platform called libro.fm, they also sell ebooks.

I can't wait to see their upgraded fine writing, ink and paper section webpage.

Thanks you for putting Vroman's on the map, MHBru.

Indeed, Drawing61, it is important to support local businesses at this time.

When they have their upgraded fine writing, ink and paper section webpage please post a link to it. Went to the site and did not find anything of interest to me for now.

Good of you to do a heads-up. We should all be looking to support our B&M stores at this time.

FWIW... I called and ordered some ink. They have extensive stock of the following brands... Kyoto... Private Reserve... J Herbin... Pelikan,,, Aurora... Waterman... Noodlers... Parker... Iroshizuku... Montegrappa... Diamine... Kaweco... Visconti... Cross... Lamy... Faber Castell... Scheffer ... and Colorverse. They were exceedingly helpful when i called to order.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
