Looking at the specifications closely, not quite:

Ah indeed, are Sailor pens going to become smaller and smaller? (This is my feeling, since it seems the minis are pushed out quite a bit, but cost the same as the full size variants (or marginally cheaper), which is ridiculous).

Granted, the size difference between these two is minimal, but still...

Do you know by chance what the difference between the plating methods is?

Going by these pics, the new line seems less yellow than the old, to my eyes Pilot gold pens are less yellow than Sailors (both the gold nibs and the gold coloured/plated hardware (ie clips)).

Only what these Google search results tell me.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I'm back in Singapore and went into Fook Hing Trading company to get a person to person experience of fountain pens. My collecting started with the pandemic, so prior to this all my purchases have been online. They had two Sailors and I fell in love with the blue with a medium nib. Orgasmic writing experience and because I'm a bit OCDC we linked it with ink as closely matching the pen as possible It's Taccia and I think the colour is ruri.

Bought it home, inked it up and what an amazing writing experience. So, even though this one is discontinued, I would recommend you grab one - now I have mine.

So, I bought the new 1911 Profit Light to compare to the Promenade.

The 1911 P Light does not have the slip & seal anymore, closing the pen isn't as nice as closing the Promenade (or 3776 Century), it is otherwise exactly the same as the 1911 Standard, except the clip, which is completely unstamped.

It is in fact exactly the same as the new 1911 Profit Casual, the Young Profit/Somiko successor, except that the Casual has a steel nib (all nib sizes!) and the Light has a 14k gold nib.

The Casual, Light and Standard are exactly the same, the only difference/s being clip and nib material

(Casual: Steel, unstamped (regular Sailor) clip

Light: 14k, unstamped (regular Sailor) clip

Standard: 14k, stamped (regular Sailor) clip

Now all Sailor models have the same clip, just stamped or unstamped (I guess except the HighAce Neo).

The biggest loss is the slip & seal at a good price point, I assume the Realos still have it.

Thank you so much for that! I would've guessed the Profit line, including the new Light and Casual, doesn't have the spring-loaded inner cap by design anyway, and the weight of the Profit Light supports my conjecture, but it's good to get proper confirmation from someone who's actively looking for that particular feature.

It's a shame I didn't have the nous to buy more of the Promenade pens two years ago when they could have been had at much better prices. Now I've paid “too much” for four out of the five Promenade pens we have here.

I just put a Zoom nib into one of them the other day. w00t! I suppose I could put a Music nib in another; although they're the ink guzzlers out of the seven standard nib types and widths, so probably least needs the spring-loaded inner cap as a feature. (I transplanted the Zoom nib because the Pro Gear Slim from which it came is too short unposted for writing or drawing at very shallow angles.)

You're welcome!

Makes me regret not having bought another Promenade as well... The slip & seal is a nifty feature, which works, makes the closure more lush and the clip on the Promenade was prettier...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
