I had a bit of a mishap yesterday; my Vanishing Point F slipped out of my hand and landed embedded in my foot. I thought I might have a tsuki-yo tattoo, but later realized the ink had actually come out but that I had bled. I wonder if it would have done less damage had it been a stub...

I think I see some tsuki-yo there all the same, not that I really want to be looking too closely.

I'm sorry for the pain and stain, but the question is, are you glad you managed to adroitly intercept the trajectory of the falling pen, and stopped the its gold nib from hitting the floor tip first?

I wonder if it would have done less damage had it been a stub...

Nobody likes stubbing their toe either.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct for valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Both I and the pen should be okay.

I am glad to have saved the nib; a bit of irony here:

This nib unit is a replacement for my previous F nib unit which was destroyed when my son accidentally knocked over my pen caddy, and (even though the nib was retracted) the nib was forced out by the blast, hit the floor, and ended up so crochu/bent that it would have cost more to repair it than to replace it. Since this is my preferred nib for this pen, my original thought as I watched the pen falling to the ground was, "Please not again!"

So much better that my toe took the brunt.

And yes, there still is a teeny bit of tsuki-yo...

I've tattooed my thumb more times with a VP than I care to admit. !@*&%!! it hurts!

My son was very lucky when he dropped his early VP with the nib extended. It landed nib, down in the gap between two floor boards, caught by the shoulders and standing straight up. No damage at all.

Looks like that new color-Ouchi Yucky.

:lticaptd:

Threads like this is why the Morrison gold filigree overlay ringtop (the first one) doesn't leave the house anymore. I almost lost it three times in the space of a day and a half when it unscrewed itself from the lanyard.... One time was on the concrete floor of a parking garage; one time it was in my house; and one time I thought I'd lost it in the parking lot of the grocery store down the hill from me. At night....

Paid more for that [expletive deleted] pen than I did for my Plum Demi Parker 51.... After the third go-round (turned out it had fallen between the console and the driver's seat in the car) I changed it's name from "Goldie" to "Trixie" and banned it from excursions. Broke that rule once. Found it a week later (after the Ohio Pen Show one year) with the lanyard hooked to the clip holding the pan of glass in the storm door, and then (rooting around a bit) the pen itself in one of the ridges in the bottom of the door frame. Nib seemed to be okay but that is NEVER happening again. I want to use that pen (it does have a very lovely semi-flex and juicy nib on it)? It stays IN THE HOUSE....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Ah, but all our mishaps occurred in the house.

Ouchy Yuki or Yama Bloodo?

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav

If one wanted to do this, one could just use the "About Me" field which appears to be unlimited in size.  And if a bunch of people wanted to cooperate, the Member Title field (or signature) could be used to this end - "Ink Giver" (or some such) could be used by those with inks to give...  No software edits required.

I suppose the update issue could be mitigated.  One would post a link in signature, to the particular part of your profile where you list the inks that you're willing to post samples to others, gratis.  But looking at profiles, I suspect that would require an edit to the board's software, potentially a nontrivial task.

I read your idea as getting willing givers to publicly register as members of a set of heterogenous servers, in a system in which a client would explicitly select an available server from a list, to which he/she will then send a request privately and asynchronously. Request handling in the system is unmanaged, and individual requests are handled by the targeted servers completely independently on each other. I think the model is fine, although there are some operational concerns you may want to

First thought on the method/system of ink sharing: Think the best way, to begin with, is to follow the way of the US thread: offer up a (small) list of inks you are willing to PIF, to whoever expresses interest. Write clearly in the "mission statement" how it works, with a tiny "quid pro quo" that even a struggling student can comply with, i.e. post your opinion and a writing sample, with option of a full review if desired.   So yours truly might say: "I'm offering up samples of D
