Wality 69T Vs 71Jt

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am looking to explore Airmail/Wality Pens. I like this transparent model very much but it looks like there are 2 models that are quite similar. 69T and 71JT. 71JT is reviewed here https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/293694-pen-review-wality-71-jt/ I am not sure how 69T is different from this? There is this pen available on Amazon but I am not sure which one it is: https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B08FC8LBD5/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AYIFX5T9MG29I&psc=1

I am planning to order Kanwrite Nibs for this pen but I dont know which size nibs to use here. Any advise will be very helpful.

Thanks,

cvk

69TL is slightly smaller and is cigar shaped. The 71JT is slightly larger and has conically tapered ends with an ultra wide cap band.

The amazon link is for a 69TL

The stock nibs on both pens are the same size as kanwrite size 8 nib.

71JT can accept kanwrite no 35 nibs also.

On 69TL it is slightly difficult for a newbie to install a no 35 nib since it has to be set much deeper inside the section.

Hope this helps.

The pic is extremely helpful. I was looking for this comparison. I also did not know that wality came with stock kanwrite nibs. I thought they had wality nibs.

The stock WALITY nibs are an exact match in dimensions to the kanwrite no 8 nib. I hope this clarifies.

Also are the barrel materials on 69 tl and 71JT identical? Looks like that from picture

Identical transparent acrylic material on the 71JT 69TL and 69TS. These barrels are handmade on a lathe. One at a time.

The caps and sections are compression moulded using resin granules of different Colors. This machine is also hand operated to provide the compression. Hard manual work goes into these pens. Same basic material for the three models and also the 71J called the Bamboo by old timer pen sellers.

Does Wality 69 TL and 69 TS come with fine nib?

oh yes. In fact they only come in F. They do produce a M but it has to be specially requested and may not be that easily available. I had obtained a few directly from WALITY and it was a special order. However you can always fit a non WALITY third party nib.

Another quick qn: How is Airmail 444 different from 69TL/69TS or 71 JT ? https://fprevolutionusa.com/collections/airmail-fountain-pens/products/airmail-444-fountain-pen

In Hari's pic we dont see the 444. Is it just another name for 69TS ?

Its nearly the same size as the TS. The cap and clip shape is different. The trims are golden instead of chrome.

Thanks for such cool explanation. I was always confused between this 444 and 69TS. I don't know why but the nibs from airmail are a bit scratchy then the airmail wailty one. For example I have my 69T it have wality special nib and that's super smooth where airmail 444 for the local market I got a bit scratchy and I had to tweak it. I was wondering which western nib size will fit on it? Is it #4?? Or #5?? 🤔 Because in my current possession I've only  #6 KanWrite BB nibs and some jinhao F nibs.

I dismantled a Pilot Tank. It's nib has been in two Wality 5.5mm pens.

The Wality OE nib is indeed made by Kanwrite, maybe with less quality control? They usually need treatment with the micro-mesh. After that they are OK

I knew that I had seen a picture of the Wality Special nib 'tipped Medium.

I simply buy medium #8 Kanwrite branded nibs anyway.

There is a nib of composite profile that is a half-hexagon toward the tip but is half-round at its base to fit a ebonite feed. The Wality 67T has it. I think the ebonite feed is also 5.5mm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
