Color Match My Dog, Please!

goodpens

Recommended Posts

I am looking for an ink that matches the color of the orange/brown markings on my dog. It must still be legible in a F nib. I plan to use this in a white TWSBI Eco.

He is a Brittany/Lab mix who just turned 15! (Just a pup in this picture.)

Most of what I have tried is too yellow, like Robert Oster Caffe Crema and J. Herbin Lie de Thé. Other samples I have are too strongly orange.

Maybe Callifolio Inti? Taccia Golden Wheat?

Thanks for suggestions of what might work!

Your dog looks a delight, I am always on the look out for nice dogs with good markings, last week I spotted an albino Dalmation, I thought it was the least I could do.

The Writing Desk offers a color match service, have a look and see how close you can get, the only problem is that the color from the swab may be different from the pen, but at least it is a start.

Diamine Golden Brown looks like a good starting point.

This is the ink I use which gets closest: Inti, here on Tomoe River and HP LJ 32. Cute dog!

Haha! And thank you. Yes, delight is the right word.

Golden Brown does look like a good option.

The Writing Desk is fantastic, but I do not think I have compared ink colors there before. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you so much for the writing samples! Inti is difficult to figure out from swabs. Seeing writing with the F nib is really helpful. It looks like a fantastic option. Edited by goodpens

15 years old! Congratulations.

I understand the motivation to find a color to match an animal companion. Most of my inks are purple, but I do have Rohrer & Klingner Sepia, which matches the "points" on my Ragdoll cat.

Take a look at the Sepia ink from Papier-Plume in NOLA. It looks like a good match from your photo. But if Lie de Thé is too yellow for you, I don't know.

As I color matched one of my Hanoverian mares (who’s a seal brown color) with Private Reserve Chocolate in my Visconti Hanoverian Pen, I just wanted to say how much I approve this project.

What a beautiful dog! Maybe Diamine Ancient Copper?

Or Noodler’s Golden Brown: http://harmless-dilettante.blogspot.com/2010/08/noodlers-golden-brown.html

Or Sheaffer Brown: http://harmless-dilettante.blogspot.com/2009/05/sheaffer-brown.html

Or Pelikan Brilliant Brown: http://harmless-dilettante.blogspot.com/2009/04/pelikan-4001-brilliant-brown.html

Sadly, I don’t have any true tans.

PR Chocolate is fantastic; glad you found your match.

I own Diamine Ancient Copper, so will start there. I havent tried it in this nib. Had thought maybe it was too orange, but in a F nib, it may be just the thing and would be very legible, still. Thanks for the other suggestions, too; I will add them to my surprisingly long wish list!!

Hmmm, have you tried looking through the Inky T O D - Color Swatches - Brown - Please Post Your Pictures And Tell Us Your Thoughts thread?

Most of what I have tried is too yellow, like Robert Oster Caffe Crema and J. Herbin Lie de Thé.

If you say so. Herbin Lie de Thé looks about right, coming out of a fine nib, in my writing sample — both the colour-corrected scanned image I posted in that thread, and the physical sheet of paper — right in front of me.

KWZ Ink Aztec Gold IGL, then.

Thank you, A Smug Dill.

Yes, that Inky TOD thread is great.

I appreciate the post of yours that you highlighted here. The specific comparison to the photo is useful.

And I like the suggestion of an iron gall option!
